Adele's target audience is 25-44 white women with jobs. That's her largest demographic. It's like she has the older version of Taylor Swift's fans that have money and don't have to wait for their parents lol. Also, no one dislikes Adele regardless of race or gender. She appeals to everyone because she just sings. I do think a minority would do well with the same backing but ultimately, there's no way they will have the backing of 25-44 white women.

@Black Reign this is like people buying Bad because of Thriller or the Massacre because of GRODT. She will never see numbers like this ever again.

You know how BIllboard Music has that "Artist of the Decade" title each decade for who sells the most records?

Elton John was for the 70s, MJ in the 80s, Mariah in 90s and Eminem in 00s.

Adele may actually end up releasing only 2 albums this entire decade(21 in 2011 and this current album) and she is gonna sell the most. Thats just insane.

She's a standout in an era of weak mainstream acts. If she was competing with those rappers and the mainstream acts they were competing with, then those numbers would look real different.

Her biggest rival Drake's last album isn't even certified gold.
People like Taylor Swift is more of a rival to Adele than Drake..

Swift did a milli+ first week twice, sells out stadiums by herself :damn:

The savvy or the willingness to pirate?

Damn y'all say this like if they only knew about zippyshare Adele wouldn't eat as much
And you say this with nothing to back yourself up. Dawg, do you only exist on this board to be the annoying ass contrarian who states conjecture as fact? If you hate everyone on here so much, why do you post here? Your entire existence in the Booth is to say shyt with a snarky tone and downplay any racial angle whatsoever. It's corny. Want to look credible? Present some facts or else you're just a curmudgeon.

This shyt is just weird. I haven't even heard any other songs playing.

At least with her last album you actually heard songs being played. This is a case of people buying it just cause its Adele.

Fine. I'll post what you just said about who she targets:

You said her demo is women aged 25-44. We've been in a music downloading age that goes back 15 years now. That means even the oldest of that demo was 29 when shyt like Napster broke out. Why people on here have this belief that older white people either don't know how to download or don't know anyone who does just looks ridiculous. Most of Adele's sales are actually coming from digital downloads. The fact that she's selling a ton of physical copies is impressive, but she's not doing 4.4 mil off pure physical sales. It's still coming from iTunes. Who's buying this? The same people y'all claim don't know how to use a damn search engine that leads to a free download. Let's face it. Her demographic supports her music with their $$$.

The only thing hip-hop could really do as far as fixing their approach is quality control of their output. It's one of the reasons why Eminem still sells really well. You can continue to bring up race as a primary factor but NOBODY is selling like this, and from a historical perspective, she's joining what is a pretty diverse select company. We can forget about huge numbers like this. Why can't hip-hop /R&B acts do a fraction of what they used to? I'd hate to think it's because we've mastered the art of illegal downloading.

People need to stop mentioning Adele's sales numbers and trying to somehow bring hip-hop into the conversation. It's a stupid comparison. There is not one single goddamn thing a hip-hop artist or executive can learn from Adele's current success. Nothing.

Different genre of music, different target audience and completely different buyer (or lack thereof).

You know how many people are going to get Adele's album as their Secret Santa gift at their work christmas party? There's just no reason to even speak on it. Congrats to her though... but c'mon... y'all cut the shyt smh.
They don't hear you though breh :whew:

That aint true man
Name me one rapper who makes positive music that everyone can relate to, and with songs that do have some level of depth.

For example, Kendrick, he does make such music but for black people.
The only other dude that does this is Lupe but he doesn't have the machine Adele has behind her.

Other than that there's no one.

But you know what though.......
This does seem unbelievable, perhaps it is....

Maybe her label pulled a Roc move and bought loads of their own albums to increase number and make her an industry behemoth.

Sometimes when it's too hard to believe, it's because it is.
Maybe..
