It's crazy that despite all the backing of transnational corporations that Drake received, his last album still only managed to sell 375,000 first week and isn't even gold yet. The media are trying to make him bigger than he really is, especially when you compare him to Adele.

Drake STAYS on these dudes' minds. :mjlol: So is Adele bigger than Jay too?

So does Drake

maybe to the younger demographic but adele's music is crafted to be rateable to almost everyone... there is nothing personal about the album at all. Adele just becomes the go too listener for women, there is really nobody in her lane while hip hop is extremely saturated. Who is adeles competition? norah jones? celine deon lol? ( lorde will be a problem soon)

as someone who works in the music biz I would be surprised if Adele takes home more than 20% the money she generates and im not saying shes getting fukked im saying its cause she is more of a corporation than an artist, a lot of people are behind that music.

Exactly my point. So we should stop making Drake out to be this big 'superstar' when he's barely bigger than a Kendrick or Cole.
Well he is two mixtapes one sold 500k first week and the other sold 375k first while Kendrick only sold 100k first week and was complaining saying the west coast don't support his music. Stop comparing them

That aint true man
Name me one rapper who makes positive music that everyone can relate to, and with songs that do have some level of depth.

For example, Kendrick, he does make such music but for black people.
The only other dude that does this is Lupe but he doesn't have the machine Adele has behind her.

Other than that there's no one.
:dahell: there can't be one hip-hop artist that makes positive music for everyone because for a man there's cultural differences. A white guy can't relate to my struggles just like I can't compare to what a white (or indian, or chinese) guy might be complaining about. You say Lupe!? You're more looking for a Macklemore. :francis:

Apples to oranges man, Drake drives a whole culture. Drake can sell so many more products than just music, Adele could too but not like Drake. Adele could sell make up and weight loss products to middle aged women. After the Hotline Bling video the sales for the Moncler jacket he had on skyrocketed and that was for a $1200 jacket with no mention of what it even was.
Any artist who sold over a milli in 2 consecutive weeks is more limited in who they can sell products to than Drake?:dwillhuh:

Adele doesn't have influence over a whole culture, her demographic is mainly middle aged women, they don't bootleg albums. If Drake's main fanbase didn't know how to get his albums illegally he'd sell just as much if not more than Adele. And I said Adele can sell other products, but she won't have young girls checking for what she wore and shyt, she's reaching the old heads they're not gona make as many impulse purchases as the demographic Drake's reaching, and they won't have the long term buying power like Drake's fanbase, if Drake can cross back over into acting he's liable to have women that remain fans for another 15-20 years+.

Her album isn't on any streaming services, those numbers are strictly album sales.

EDIT: At least the 1st week it wasn't on any streaming services, I'm not positive if it's still off of them.

Stop it. Adele could sell anything from cars to clothing and do it internationally if she wanted to. I don't give a shyt about what she's doing but lets be realistic.

The savvy or the willingness to pirate?

Damn y'all say this like if they only knew about zippyshare Adele wouldn't eat as much

Fine. I'll post what you just said about who she targets:

You said her demo is women aged 25-44. We've been in a music downloading age that goes back 15 years now. That means even the oldest of that demo was 29 when shyt like Napster broke out. Why people on here have this belief that older white people either don't know how to download or don't know anyone who does just looks ridiculous. Most of Adele's sales are actually coming from digital downloads. The fact that she's selling a ton of physical copies is impressive, but she's not doing 4.4 mil off pure physical sales. It's still coming from iTunes. Who's buying this? The same people y'all claim don't know how to use a damn search engine that leads to a free download. Let's face it. Her demographic supports her music with their $$$.

The only thing hip-hop could really do as far as fixing their approach is quality control of their output. It's one of the reasons why Eminem still sells really well. You can continue to bring up race as a primary factor but NOBODY is selling like this, and from a historical perspective, she's joining what is a pretty diverse select company. We can forget about huge numbers like this. Why can't hip-hop /R&B acts do a fraction of what they used to? I'd hate to think it's because we've mastered the art of illegal downloading.
