So why didn't Leona Lewis sell? She went from a #1 hit and being compared to Mariah Carey to having an album not good enough to drop in this country. It's not because she's white.

Are there talented black female singers? Of course.

None of em had a Rollin In The Deep, and even if they had a song in their arsenal that was on that level (I'd love for people to start naming them), would we care? (Not they, we?)

I wouldnt buy it b/c I dont really fool with female R&B like that.

But when you sell 10 million records in 2012, you best believe that WE are in that number too, maybe not alot, but somewhere. My cousin has her album.

But at this point, R&B has gotten so far fom it's roots, it's the reason why it fell off. It alienated it's loyal base for the finnicky/trendy crowd who will drop it when something else comes out.

People in other parts of the world still love our 90's-early 00's R&B. Boyz II Men still sell out concerts in Japan. Same with people like Brian McKnight. The UK still appreciates good soul music.

So what, the trendy thing is to call Adele overrated now?

Some straight up hipsterdom going on in this thread, ironically from people accusing Adele's audience of being white hipsters.

I never called her overrated, I just said the album is garbage

it put me to

I don't think Adele's image, her race, her weight or any of that played any part in her sales. Her music was in the forefront. She was rarely on magazine covers, taking interviews, or doing something attention grabbing. When she was on TV, it was award show performances, videos, or appearances on late night talk shows. The magazine covers she did get were only head shots (which is where her weight worked against her). The extra press she got was her being pregnant and her giving the middle finger at an awards show.

The point is, her music is in the spotlight much more than she is. Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga all get much more press, but have nowhere near the sales. Their star is bigger than their music in that whatever comment, interest in whoever they are dating/engaged to/marrying, outfit, etc. overshadows the music.

Said the same shyt when she came out...

whites always act :ld: towards shyt when blacks do it, then call it "groundbreaking" when it comes in white skin :whoo:

If Adele was a black chick, she'd be with Kelly Price & all the other fat bytches sitting in the corner in artist development hell :to: Same shyt with Eminem & Nas. Em wasn't any better technically/lyrically than Nas, in fact, Em's content seems shallow as fukk compared to Nas but, he sold 12, 11 million somethin records twice while Nas would have a fukkin coronary if he ever saw them kinds of numbers :merchant:

EXACTLY!!!

and this board reflects that. notice, when you make an r&b thread in here, theres always like 5-10 people talkin about "THIS SHOULD BE MOVED TO TLR". but make a thread about a white singer like amy whinehouse or to go further- ADELE(who doesnt make any sort of urban music) and nobody says chit. those threads be big as hell too, and they post nothing but pleasantries.

but im racist for calling that out? i didnt come in here dissin adele or none of that. i just simply said that this thread doesnt belong in the booth and her going diamond shouldnt be celebrated anywhere on a so-called hip-hop forum.

im tired of the bullchit. im gonna continue chittin on these f**k niccas til they kill themselves.

Good for Adele. Her race and look helped her, but its not the be-all-end-all for her. She had a story, and the songs were clever and relatable without relying on tired RnB/Soul cliche.

The production was also really well done and anthemic. Maybe if others had that same big band James Bond sound, they could do similar. Kelly Price (or generic RnB female) does not have the same quality and effort put into their shyt and its apparent if you actually listen to it.

I tip my hat (and my penis) to the lil British PAWG for having talent, not having to act like a total slore, and writing her own shyt :obama:

look at this bullchit.

"r&b/soul cliche"....."generic r&b female"

thanks for proving our point buddy. stuff like this is exactly why 75% of white posters stay getting the gas face on here.

the one that took the cake for me was buddy who started off his post by saying "name a black female singer who appeals to both teenagers & adults". i couldnt even read his chit after that first sentence.
