Yes and no, but my experience wasn't typical I guess
Both my boys were premies and the first spent a significant amount of time in NICU so his day night cycle was all fukked up from jump . So being around was a definite help. Was it necessary to be around and help, yeah because the little guy had his shyt in reverse .

My second child spent only a couple days in NICU comparatively, but my wife had a c-section...so again requiring a lot of additional care that was necessary. I felt like a glorified butler for 3 people

Don’t get jealous of the baby takin all yo lady time and attention .....you will be an afterthought for a while, deal wit it. Many men make the mistake of acting like a bytch during this phase, some even cheat.... just be the man of the house.

Congrats and God Bless breh. I forgot about this thread. We're 3m in and it's been mostly smooth so far. Fever from the 2 month vaccinations was a tough night.

I thought it was bs but sleep training really works. PJs on by 8, last feeding and diaper change by 9. Lights completely out in nursery.Got the baby knocked out from 10 - 4 every night.

Here is some more productivity based advice.

Do not go out and buy a ton of size 1 diapers. My first son was in size 1 diapers for 1 month and then we had boxes of that shyt left over. If people want to get you diapers request size 2 or 3. Kids stay in size 3 the longest, the more of those you can get the more money you will save.

Do not buy sleepers with snaps, you want zippers. Its going to be a bytch and a half to change diapers at 1am if you have to snap shyt. The zippers make it 100% easier.

My first son could not take powdered formula, he would always spit it up. So we had to use liquid which sucks because once you open the bottle it has to be refrigerated and subsequently has to be warmed. That sucks because the baby gonna be crying and you standing by a bottle warmer waiting for it to finish. If you not going 100% breast fed try whatever powder you can to see if the kid will take it before you go with liquid formula.

Buy an infant seat for your car, the one where you can carry the thing by a handle. Some parents go 100% convertible seat but thats a pain in the ass because when the baby falls asleep in the car you have to physically remove their body from the seat and it wakes them up. With the infant seat/carrier you can just take the whole thing inside and let the baby keep sleeping.

Check the clearance rack for what your kid will be wearing next year. You can save a lot of money by buying a year in advance on clearance.

Try to figure out the signs your baby is sleepy, once you see the sign put them to bed. A baby can get too tired to go to sleep as dumb as that sounds. If you let them get too tired before putting them to bed they gonna go into a fit that takes forever to calm them out of.

If your child needs to be swaddled in order to sleep then dont fumble with that folding a blanket shyt, go buy some actual swaddles. They like sleeping bags with velcro fasteners, makes life so much easier. You can get that velcro so tight they cant undo it like they will with that blanket bullshyt.

Ay Bruh this shyt is mad helpful. Especially that zipper swaddle shyt. I had my swaddle technique on point using the cpr doll as practice but my son got superhuman strength in his arms cuz he breaks out of the the blanket swaddles like it’s nothing.

out of curiosity, did your wife not breastfeed? My wife had some difficulties so we’re supplementing the breastfeeding with formula.

Yeah we’re only on day 5 but I’m fed up with this lack of sleep. Told my wife we need to be more organized. My son be knocked out during the day but want to be wide awake at night.

First kid her milk dried up in like 2 weeks so we had to go formula. 2nd child the milk stayed but once the euphoria period wore off she hated that she had to pump all the time. Said she felt like a damn cow. Plus with the breast milk if she wanted me to help, it meant I had to go warm some up from the freezer, and rhe crying kid woke her up.

You gotta get used to that lack of sleep. You won't get a full nights rest for at least a year if yall sleep together. Me and the wife ended up sleeping in different rooms and we would rotate who would sleep with the baby.

Man, I still haven't recovered from the lack of sleep in that 1st year. It really fukks with you...cuz work don't give a shyt if you're tired. I remember dozing off in meetings. Took time off jus to sleep.

It does get better, my guy is 2 and still likes to run into our bed every once in a while in the middle of the night. We should have done a better job with sleep training when he was younger. You live and you learn.

Better have a great relationship with your wife/girl. Kid will have yall arguing over nothing cuz you're both tired as fukk and those first few years are pretty nerve racking cuz you're constantly worried about little shyt.
