What constitutes an Afro Arab?

In your opinion is there a such thing?

How do you feel about them as a group?

Afro-Arabs are Arabized Sudanese, Arabized Swahilis and blacks in the Arabian peninsula.

You can definitely be a black Arab. Arabs are similar to Hispanics in that its a cultural linguistic group and both are tied to a certain religion. For Arabs its Islam. For Hispanics its Christianity, most specifically Roman Catholicism.

:ohhh:so one specific as shyt answer

And one general answer.... Basically equating them to a language culture group like hispanics

People think I’m crazy when I say that your stereotypical Arab is white or at the very least mutts. I have a friend who is Muslim and black and since we were kids his pops always said they weren’t Arabs becuz Arabic wasn’t their first language

Are black people whose first family language is arabic, Arabs?

Without Africa would there be such a thing as an Arab? I'm not asking rhetorically.

Some say that the first people to speak the langauge and even inhabit the so called Mid East were black Afrikan.

Nah there are many Christian and even Jewish Arabs. It's a culture/linguistic group more than a religious group. There are also ethnic Arabs, but they are a small minority who primarily live in the Gulf. Most North Africans, Levantine Arabs (Lebanese, Syrians, Palestinians, some Jordanians), and Iraqis are not ethnically Arab.

You mean like the Sudanese? Yeah they are considered to be Arab unless their native language is Nubian or Beja.

Yeah

This is what I thought and from what I've just picked up in passing from my own readings..

As far as I'm humbly concerned, "Arab" to me, is a concentrated cultural amalgam with an obfuscated identity in part because of ignorance and historical detachment :ld:

I know some Palestinian Arabs who look like light skin Africans or mixed race, not sure they consider themselves "Afro-Arab" tho :patrice:

There are even more Saudis who look like your average light skin AA, but they are seen as normal Arabs especially if they're from one of the main tribes. You could have people from the exact same tribe yet one looks like a cac and the other looks light skin black. The children of slave masters and slave women inherited the tribe and lineage of their father. But then you also have a class of people in some parts of the Gulf who are descended from black slaves, they are Nationals of those Arab countries, but they treated like lesser citizens. I met some when I lived the UAE.

Like the Akhdam ("servants") in Yemen who are extremely impoverished and are treated poorly.

It's very complicated and it depends a lot on ppls lineage. You have Arabs in Arabia (not arabized Arabs, I mean ethics Arabs) who look African yet they are seen as pure Arabs due to their lineage. Meanwhile you have Arabs who look exactly the same as the former group, but they are seen as arabized Africans.

These are all Bedouin Arabs who clearly have some black influence. Even the way they used to dress and do their hair reminds of how Cushyte nomads like the Afar, Beja and Somalis used to dress. But they would not be regarded as "Afro-Arab" in Arabia due to their lineage.
