I realize that I can mess with some of the drumless stuff, just have a few ground rules:

- track should be 2 minutes or less
- should at least have some bass going on or progression beyond a 4 bar loop
- should be interspersed with drums in an album setting not just back to back joints like that

I like some drumless shyt like Aethiopes, Ka stuff, Ransom Directors Cut 4, most of Al's stuff but that Earl album was terrible sorry lol

I don't get that third poijt. If an album is trying to create a specific mood then there is no reason for there to be drums on any song if that's what the artist is intending.

It sounds to me like you actually CAN’T mess with some drumless stuff. You got quite a few ground rules there lol

Lol maybe you right. And those are just general rules that I tend to prefer but I'll listen and give it try if a lot of heads on here and elsewhere are recommending. I'm trying to get more into it but a lot of it isn't for me.

I like quite a few drumless beats but for a whole album... Sometimes the beat actually gets going when the drum kicks on and it gives it that extra element. It can be hit or miss with me, sometimes it fits and sometimes you just wish that drum would kick in.

I kinda hate drumless rap songs, with few exceptions.

Drums have always been a part of hip-hop. From beating on the lunch table. Cats wasn't making weird ass ambient sounds and shyt like "ok, go in".

Fred.
Do you consider these songs "drumless?" I find the term a bit ambiguous because quite a few rap songs that lack drum kicks still use snares.

Don't Believe the Hype
Aye, man. If rappers are actually buying two-measure loops of samples with no drums, let Al do his thing. lol

I don't love a whole album of drumless tracks, but, apparently, there's a market for it.
