I used to wonder how the heel isn't the US competing for WCs and having players all over the top leagues in Europe. It is the most multicultural, western, industrialized country. You literally have everybody from everywhere in America but I realized that being a wealthy country brings a lot of options. There are too many lucrative sports leagues in the US for kids just dedicate their time to football.

When you got man like Landycakes, who was happy to be a big fish in small pond (until Becks came thru and showed him what a star really is) and stay in the US, because he wasn't willing to take the plunge again in Europe full-time because he couldn't adapt when he was younger. If he had made it Europe, with all the media he got in the US, he would of probably made soccer a lot more popular. Because who doesn't want to see one of their own play with and against the world's best week in week out. 'Build it and they will come' as that one sports movie said.

That's why Deuce Deuce will always be better than him, less talented than Landycakes but had more heart and effort to make his career in Europe work.

Helping Fulham get to the Europa League final >>>> Whatever Landycakes won in MLS

Agree with everything about Landon. He did bomb in Europe at a very young age and showed glimpses of being able to play to compete when he came back with Everton. Unfortunately instead of taking the challenge he kept running back to the MLS for comfort and easier pay check.

Landon talent > Clint

Clint, Brian McBride, Claudia Reyna, Pulisic heart > Landon

Soccer is a suburban sport only in the USA, you cant compete with that shyt. We need to take our talented youth and have them learn dribbling skills from an early age instead of putting on pads :francis:
Teaching kids how to play the sport at a young age isn't gonna do shyt if you don't got the income to pay for academies/camps

The real talent plays at local parks. Somewhere US Soccer would never step foot in because the kids there can't afford to pay 5k-10k a year to play on teams

Yet it isn't getting bigger and bigger each year in the US.

The valuation of the MLS teams have jumped 80% in about 4/5 years. Atlanta a city that has NBA, NFL, MLB teams, had is expansion soccer team sell out 30k season tickets. The extensive TV coverage from the Fox and Espn, regular pre-season tournament that has Real, United, Barca, PSG competing in every year for at least the past 4 years. Worldwide soccer attendance ranked 7th in the world above French and Argentine leagues and they would of been above Serie A, if not for the Italian league having 40 games more. 4/5 live games per week in the UK market, which is the same amount of coverage as the other European leagues shown in the UK. The 4th most popular sport to watch in the US after the big 3 and I'm sure the numbers of Juniors/Youths who participate in soccer has greatly improved over the past decade as well.

I don't know breh, that looks like growth to me. You may not be checking for it yourself, but from an outsider's POV, it doesn't look too shabby.

I know in the LA area there's a lot of young talent that goes untapped because of this

talking about the US and you talking about worldwide soccer attendance. LOL.
Stop breh.
What happens in the UK, France, and ARgentina is irrelevant to the US.
Soccer isn't the 4th most popular sport either, NHL and NASCAR rank higher than it in ratings and attendance.
30k season tickets is very good, you got high school football teams in Texas that average higher in attendance than that.
If you are talking about this in the US

Like I said I'm an outsider and from my POV, its getting bigger, compared to what it was in the 90's and 00's.

7th Worldwide in overall attendance, is good for a non soccer country and where the game ranks as what 5/6/7th sport. Compared to being either #1 or 2 in England, France, Germany, Spain, Holland, Brasil, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Argentina, Turkey, etc etc.

I just re-looked at that 4th in ratings was for 2014/2015, world cup year, but still. Was that the case in 2010, 2006, 2002, 1998, tho?

They made "The Academy" to mimic what the English are doing. They practice a lot more but play a lot less games. They charge you more to be in The Academy cause they promise it will get you exposure. They ruined the competitive edge in US youth soccer. Believe me the talent is being seen but there's an agenda like everything else. I'll never support the USMNT because of this. I went through it and honestly its so fukking corrupt it's ridiculous.

Let me start out by saying "Yes, Football is king in this country."

Now that that's out in the open and has been stated. What he said wasn't wrong though.

The sport is growing and becoming more popular here in this country. MLS attendance has grown since the early 2000s. The average attendance of 21,692 in 2016 was a 57% increase over the 13,756 average in 2000. The total attendance of 7,375,144 in 2016 is more than triple the 2,215,019 total of 2002.

Investors are recognizing the growth and the potential also. Adidas and MLS just signed a $700 million dollar deal to make Adidas the official supplier of MLS merchandise. Back in 2010 the deal was for $200 million. In 2011 Fox outbid ESPN and NBC for the U.S. English-speaking rights–Sports Business Journal reported the total rights fee to be between $400 million to $500 million.

According to data from TicketIQ, the overall secondary market for MLS tickets has grown 300 percent since 2011, more than any major sport, as measured by annual gross sales across the league.

Target dropped Nascar to become one of the main sponsors of the MLS. It also is paying Minnesota United to be the official jersey sponsor.

In 2016 around 3 million kids play in U.S. Youth Soccer leagues. Among 12- to 17-year-olds, MLS is now more popular than MLB. In fact, among that age group only basketball is more popular.

This year, over 60 professional teams will play in the USA. There are also 12 cities currently willing to pay $150 million to get their city a MLS franchise.

There is much more data I could post, but I don't have time at the moment to post more.

Kids in the US always played soccer, pointing out kids playing it means nothing.
Target dropped Nascar, winston dropped them too, doesn't change nascar ratings.
MLS ticket growth sales on secondary markets is nice, it has a long way to go to be viewed as a major league in the US.
Fox and ESPN and ESPN overbidding for sports in the 2011s is pretty meaningless. sports networks were feasting on just gaining content, now that cable is dropping, all sports leagues licensing will come down to earth.
