The fact of the matter is 99% of the people in this thread
would rather moan about Arianna Grande (an artist I hardly know anything about
and I get the feeling they're in the same boat) than support talented black R&B artists.

Most of the people in this thread likely :
Haven't touched a Frank Ocean or Miguel Album.
They couldn't tell you who Jesse boykins or Charles Bradley is.
They didn't even know Raheem Devaughn dropped an album this year
that bilal dropped an album this year or that Dwele dropped one last year.

It's not like over night black talent disappeared.
What happened is that R&B isn't nearly as viable as it once was
on a commercial level (at least for black artists) and those same "Fans" aren't going
to go and check on their favorite artist unless a major is shoving them
in their faces daily.

I won't lie, there has been a b*stardization of R&B somewhat.
When you've got artists like Chris Brown and Trey songz moonlighting
as rappers then turning around and making "love" songs in a Hip Hop format.
And I personally think Chris brown and Trey Songz have some good material
out there but they themselves have fallen victim to creating increasingly absurd
material in an attempt to maintain relevance.
Chris Brown more so than Trey Songz.

Which is weird because I think they both have the singing
talent to make records that are of great quality :ld:
don't forget the TGT album that dropped a few months ago :mjpls:

I agree. She needs to find her own footing though. It seems like her label has her in between little girl and grown woman and she doesn't know where to land.
i think they purposely make her dress like a lil girl to make her the anti miley..the soes her hair the same way every single day.. i think its label influenced..a efw years ago she was rockin red hair and heavy mascara and actually looked a lot older than she has been

R&B, Soul, etc. has been dying for years though IMO. I don't get the same feeling with artists of this generation, and even the previous during the 90's and late 80's as I did with Al Green, Isaac Hayes, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, etc. To me, cats like Usher never really did do R/B, they were always pop artists. Alicia Keys was never really R/B/Soul to me. She was always more HipHop than anything. I don't care how many records she sold, same with Usher or anyone else you mention that was popular for the past couple decades. That sh!t never compared to what was present during the late 60s to early 80's. It's been dying for the past twenty years. So it goes.

It's the age, I'm sure your elders weren't too impressed with all those guys in favor of Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, Jackie Wilson, Wilson Pickett etc......You can go as far as Leadbelly:lolbron: fans who slated Muddy Waters and Chess Records or their fans who shat Ray Charles for making gospel inspired RnB. Personally I like Miguel

he's not for me but what are your thoughts on Frank Ocean? or this brother right here

Not knocking Ariana...she is talented. I've been saying that to black folks for the past few years. The masses do not want to hear RnB/Soul from black folks anymore. Usher dropped one of the most successful RnB albums of all time...shyt went diamond and now that nikka has been pushed to pop.

All this means is there is an open lane for soul... Robin Thicke raping soul right now, and the world loves it... but I do agree, music is being pushed "pop". lines are blurred for real, pun intended

not to mention that new Thundercat album :whew: AND that Black Radio 2 album by Robert Glasper :banderas::banderas::banderas:

the music is definitely there

but these nikkas would rather complain about what is on the radio or tv even thought most of em admit to not listening to radio or watching tv :mindblown:

tbh if anyone was really paying attention you'd agree that r&b and soul has been coming back in a big way in the past year or so :ehh:

I agree with the lines being blurred. I think that RnB will be the new pop because the young people don't realize the origins of RnB/Soul at all. Bruno Mars "Treasure" I can guarantee is not viewed as an RnB/Soul record by the masses, so lines are being blurred due to lack of knowledge of music history.
Have you heard of blue eyed soul? The Doobie Brothers, Hall & Oates were early successors of whites doing RnB. The Billboard categorized RnB/Soul singles as the Black Singles chart from 1982-1990...no joke. That was why when a white person did RnB/Soul it was deemed as blue eyed soul. That was a bit of stigma if you think about it and I think it almost pushed whites away from trying to the do the music during that time period. Teena Marie and Lisa Stanfield were in the game for a little but couldn't sustain though.
