They SAID she was “special” in the first episode!
AKA just another word for "magic"

Them saying she's magical (or, my bad, "special") doesn't make it any less goofy that she is. It's lazy and uninteresting writing. It also is so non-compelling because I'm never going to buy that she's ever in any danger because she controls the aliens as her pets and she controls everything else on the island too. It deflates so much tension that you want in a thriller/sci-fi/horror show.

I was always afraid for Ripley, and even the girl in the new Romulus film. I'll never feel afraid for Wendy. She's too overpowered.

Bro, you know how unexciting is to just have an all-powerful God for a main character? She controls the xenos. She controls the whole island. She can do magic now. She can freeze other robots in place. She can hack everything on the island with a wave of the hand.

It's frustrating because they could've had some creative ways to write them out of some trouble in the finale, but they just made Wendy an all powerful God mode. It felt like they were plugging in cheat codes to finish the game.

BTW I've been super fair to this show and I never really dunked on it until tonight. I enjoyed the entire season and every episode until this finale. I thought episodes 5/6/7 had a lot of dumb decisions by characters, but if you look anywhere online right now, the consensus in the Alien fandom across the board is that this finale was a huge let down.

You KNOW I don’t care about the nitty gritty. I enjoyed it for the most part. They were probably told they’d get a season 2 or 3 and made changes. The Skelton of a one shot is there.

I’m ready for shyt to spin out of control and lead to a good ol’ fashioned nuking.

I'm happy that you enjoyed it, and so did I as far as just a brain melting show to make the time pass. But it's frustrating to me as a hardcore fan (my favorite franchise ever) that I've seen way more interesting ideas for an Alien Earth show.

It just feels like a let down that we all have to just accept just generic slop from Hollywood, when they could give us so much better.

At the very least a show should abide by its own internal logic (this is why most shows have real things called "show bibles" of rules that they have to abide by), and this show multiple times did not.

BTW they were not guaranteed a season 2, and when you're in that position, you always gtta write your seasons hoping that they can be narratively satisfying if they don't get picked up for an additional season.

It's lazy writing to not even attempt to write your show a satisfying conclusion.

That’s why they wrote it the way they did to justify a season 2.

If everything was wrapped up why would it be renewed?

This basically ended like season 1 of Westworld when the robots took over the park. In fact Wendy is just a child version of Delores from that show.

The finale was a let down. I thought the eyeball would get into some real fukkery but it didn’t happen. I thought Kirsh had a plan but that never came through either. If they get a second season with all the people from the other company coming to the island hopefully they really take the training wheels off the monsters and get to it. Less robot magic more murder and mayhem.

I don't think that's what I said. If I said that, my bad.

I'd never expect everything to be wrapped up. I don't expect it to be like a movie where everything gets finished. You gotta dangle some threads at the end of every season, and leave open plot points and interesting directions for them to go in the next season.

But you should cover some bases and at bring major story arcs and plot threads to a plausible level to where if it got cancelled, fans won't be super frustrated.

It feels like a ton of stuff literally went nowhere. I feel like the best shows feel like "this character decision led to this, which led to this, which led to this, etc." Other shows with less good writing feel more like "this happened. And then this happened. And then this happened, etc."

EDIT: BTW Westworld S1 was much better than Alien Earth S1 IMO. Westworld shyt the bed later, but the first season was classic.

You expected that from FX of all networks????

:wow:
For fukkery’s sake I hope Wendy becomes like Tetsuo, and when her brother and son-phew get killed, she starts absorbing and assimilating all technology on the island.

I think that would create the most optimal thread meltdown.
