I respect that.

I'm just thinking, how many guys on this forum weren't feeling his music back between 05-08. I felt like he was rap back then. :yeshrug:

I always saw Wayne have a big backslash during his run, a lot of people really hated him, I never was one of those personally, as I could at least respect his talent and that he was different in terms of energy, delivery, flow, inflections etc. My problem was so many songs and his ratio that I felt them wasn't that great, felt kind of rushed sometimes, but I like a bunch of Wayne shyt, even shyt like This Is The Carter. Wayne had his fan base that liked him, then he had a bunch of others who hated his guts lol. I was in the middle camp lol, no hate, liked some of his songs, didn't like a lot of them too. He's got enough good shyt to be somewhere on a list most probably, but there's no way I can see him in the upper echelons of a greatest lists from my perspective at least, but anyone who thinks so it's all good.

rap fans have always been hoes subconsciously. in 3 or 4 years when Drake is up, and the universal hate comes in, no one is going to admit they were rabid drake fans. rap fans are notoriously fickle.

did he influence them? rap was going the route of caricature and the tattoo phase was inevitable. honestly, i think it was the g unit tattoos that sparked that race, and blacks dying to stand out led to the skateboard/alternative fun phase.

Comparatively speaking, whose career has seen more longevity and success? I'm talking rappers that came up circa Wayne's time. Only name I can think of is Kanye.

I was thinking bout this the other day :patrice:

Are we counting his work with the Hot Boys and everything before Tha Carter? Of course there's all the ghostwriter accusations but I personally count them. :manny: His first three solo albums were good releases.

Of course the first three Carters were all great, and most people would agree at least one of those is classic.

Then you've got the mixtapes, and Wayne has a top 3 mixtape discography of all time, if not the best. Dedication 2 and Drought 3 are classic mixtapes.

But even with all that, after considering garbage like Carter IV, Rebirth, the I Am Not a Human Being albums... I don't think I could even put him in the top 50 :patrice: Top 75, probably.

If Wayne had any influence on rap I think it came before his obsession with skating.

C'mon guys, the man revolutionized the mixtape scene in ways no one else has.

lil wayne revolutionized mixtapes? you guys and your history.

I'm aware they've been around longer than he has. But as far as taking other rappers' beats and turning them into essentially his own songs? I personally think Wayne has to take credit for that.
