its entertainment league in their business framework, of course. doesnt mean I agree with it and cant voice my displeasure, does it ?

doesnt mean I shouldnt want it to be more about sports than entertainment. to me its like 99% sports 1% entertainment.

Again, like I stated before, the NFL is in the business of making money (as is every other major sports business), so these rule changes were only natural.

The great thing about America? You can do and say whatever you want, so voice on breh. I'm just explaining to you why the NFL won't change, and why the game is the way it is today.

Its one thing to voice your displeasure over something, its another to be in every thread saying the same ol' "the NFL is soft, there's no defense, the NFL will be a touch sport years down the road" shyt (idk your posting history, general statement).

Great football is played every week, whether it be college, NFL, high school, or youth league. Great defense is played every week (Carolina?), great offense is played every week. There are mechanics and different nuances brought into the game that the casual fan won't even pick up on, but those initiated will love. Why not talk about those things? Never before have we seen the offensive combination plays like there's been in the past 2 years, or how more teams in the NFL are running more 46 style defenses with nickel and dime personnel, why not speak on that?

Breh there is no elite teams anymore. By week 8 we knew who was the best, remember childhood

Yunno, this comes down to a question of parity vs. familiarity, and what one favors personally.

In the 80s and early 90s NFL, there were the dominant teams, and then there were the also-rans, such that each year only a handful of teams seemed to have a realistic shot at the title.

Logically speaking, to someone who didn't experience those eras, one would think that makes for a FAR more boring season, yes?

But by all accounts, it didn't. Those eras were enjoyed by those fans - even the fans of losing teams, sitting out there in the cold and snow for a 2-14 squad, knowin' in AUGUST that their team ain't have a shot in hell at the playoffs - just as greatly and with as much fervor as the fans of the current era have enjoyed (not to mention that, arguably, fans were getting a watered-down version of today's product, at least in terms of athleticism and speed...I mean, let's not act like D-linemen was routinely droppin' into coverage on a regular basis back then).

I understand that game mechanics suck now, especially poor tackling, because let's be real, if cats could TACKLE properly, there wouldn't be so many season-ending hits and such. There would DAMN sure be less blows to the helmet and nikkas gettin' concussed n' such.

Fortunately, there are some really great programs in little leagues nationwide, associated with the NFL, who are working to change the way kids learn how to tackle....they're basically starting from scratch with the "see what you hit/heads up" sensibility, it's fantastic work.

Showing that compared to other sports, the NFL is a universe unto its own, at the half-way point in the 2013 season, the National Football League is smashing the competition in the television ratings and overall viewership department.

Currently, NFL games account for the 18 most-watched programs on television since the NFL season kicked off on Sept. 5, as well as 19 of the top 20 (see the chart below). Through Week 9, NBC’s Sunday Night Football accounts for the seven most-watched primetime shows this fall.

In addition, the average NFL game telecast (including broadcast and cable) has drawn 16.8 million viewers (vs. 16.0 million at this point in 2012) – more than double the average primetime viewership (7.5 million) for the big four broadcast networks in the new television season, according to information provided by The Nielsen Company.

The question is, is football becoming so popular on television that fans would rather watch from the comfort of their home rather than pay to see games in-person at stadiums across the country? The NFL has seen attendance drop in five consecutive seasons, and has recently loosened up on the blackout policy in an effort to try and draw more fans to the stadium. Still, the problem the NFL faces is one that the other Big-4 sports would like to have. The NBA, NHL, and MLB would love to have these ratings numbers.

Other notables around NFL ratings:

An NFL game telecast has been television’s most-watched program in each of the season’s first nine weeks (tied with 2012 and up from seven of the first nine weeks in 2011).

because what youre proposing is ostrich tactics. stick head in sand and ignore shyt and be happy what uncle sam roger gives you.

because Im a defense lover and watching tons of football I see phantom flags on great defensive plays
because I dont think qb is the most important position in the game but media and league is glorifying it further, making them throw for 5k yards routinely
because Im tired of team x vs team y turning into qb a vs qb b on some boxing bullshyt
because art of running the ball is mostly forgotten aside from few teams
because hitting a guy so he'll think twice about trying to catch a ball over the middle is punishable both in game and outside the game
because Ive seen more flags for defense verbally TALKING SMACK to the receiver this season already ( like its fukking baseball) than Ive ever seen in my life.

because to me, a 10-9 game in rain/wind/snow with tons of injuries and tough work and willpower is more beautiful than any 50-49 turf shootout you can give me

because football is more than a game to me and when bullshyt happens I wont let it go and stick my hand in the sand

Fantasy can be blamed for alot of the changes that have been made to the NFL. Go to any bar and 90% of the people watching games are talking about players on their fantasy roster which has them watching multiple games.

Its smart from a revenue standpoint but the quality of game has diminished and that's just a fact. That Drew Brees sack fumble being a penalty says everything about where the focus is for the NFL now and to say it doesn't take something away from the game is just a lie.

Its a slippery slope the NFL is playing on banking on entertaining the fickle majority and stripping fundamental things from the game.

...and right on cue:

...here come THIS nikka. :stopitslime:

This thread's for you, buddy.

CTE and the rise of Futbol in America will lead to the decline of NFL. It won't be Horse Racing status, but the gap between NFL and everything else won't be as big as it is now. In 30 years, the big four sports in US will be NFL; MLB, NBA, Futbol(Premier League and MLS).

Lol so you just want old football back, like I stated earlier, but I'll refute your points with some facts

Since 1944, 30 QB's have been drafted #1 overall
QBs are routinely given the highest salaries
QBs are the only position judged by wins and loses, the only position that tracks the wins and loses no matter what team they go to
The best athletes don't play RB anymore, that's not the NFL's fault, that starts with where coaches place their recruits in college.
Hitting a guy coming across the middle, though is most likely the best way to jar the ball out of his hands, is also a risk of player safety. I'm all for seeing big hits, but these are grown men running full speed at each other, I don't want to see anyone killed or permanently injured at the hands of playing "good defense."

You love the physicality of the sport, as do I, nothing wrong with that. I think football builds men, and teaches you how to compete and thrive in not only the game of football, but in life. Trust me, I love the game just as much as you do (I coach), but I also understand the dynamics of the NFL, and how players need to be protected.

When people say "If you don't like it, stop watching..." it reminds me of people that say, "I you don't like America, just leave."

I would like a better product with the NFL, But it doesn't mean I'm not gonna watch. And just because I watch doesn't mean I don't have a right to complain about the things I don't like, especially of they are blatant. Can't I just want a sport, that I happen to enjoy, be better officiated? Or balanced calls for offense and defense.

Why the hell does it always have to be either or?

You want a better product with the NFL, do you think complaining will produce that better product? Have you written to the commissioner, or the head of league officiating? How about going through proper channels to make sure your voice is heard rather than criticizing the league on a message board and vilifying anyone who doesn't agree with your stance on the matter.

That's why nikkas say if you don't like it, don't watch it, cuz nikkas will complain without trying to solve the problem. Nothing comes from complaining breh.
