There are confirmed reports he DID have a gun..He was a felon on probation and that burner would have sent him back for a long time..probably why he didnt want to surrender quietly.
Could the cops have handled it better ? perhaps..the one cop tried some foolish MMA type take-down that obviously didn't work well
but ultimately you still have to put most of the blame on Alton sterling..he made several poor choices that led to that point..carrying a weapon and being confrontational..sitting in jail waiting for a court date is better than bleeding to death in some parking lot.

Yo man, they need to stop letting these motherfukkers into the Police force all willy nilly. Clearly, this shyt is not for p*ssy ass fukkboys who tremble like women at any sign of confrontation or melanin and resort to the most extreme measure they can take. This is a serious fukking job - the recruitment process needs to be as stern as it is for the Marines. I'm talking reflex tests, mental health tests, rigorous combat training, P.I. grade background checks - fukking everything. This is ridiculous. The fact that these two nerds who can't handle one man in a physical confrontation get to be in the force tells me that just about anybody can get in. I don't get it - you have a training week to see if you qualify for flipping burgers but not for this shyt?!
