Am I missing something? Is 50 Cent still relevant in the rap game?

Dudes in here are mad as hell. 50 is not hot anymore. This is the reason his album has been pushed back since before Lasers came out. Doesnt mean he cant produce some heat...or that he will never get hot again. But as of right now his career is in an air conditioned space.

Come on fellas I'm about as big of a 50 fan as anyone but you cannot sit there and tell me he ever released anything that was on par with GRODT once that initial shockwave hit. By the time '05-'06 rolled around his mystique was gone and it was a steady stream of underwhelming output.

And I'm not sayin it was all bad. He's dropped plenty of gems since then. I liked PLENTY of tracks off Massacre, not to mention a few joints off his other releases... but nothing he ever dropped again got you as amped as when he first dropped GRODT. That's always gonna be the standard to which his music will be measured against.

I don't think anyone is saying he's made any albums on par with GRODT since then. But I don't expect that, just like I don't expect Nas to make another Illmatic/IWW, Jay to make another RD, Em to make another MMLP, Roots to make another Illadelph, Mobb to make another Infamous, etc.

I just pointed out that a lot of his songs (on BISD) are really the exact same style and pretty much on par with GRODT quality - when comparing individual songs. However BISD as an album is still lacking as being as good front to back, and it is missing some songs that are as witty or have that same humor, some don't have the same catchiness to them, production is lacking in some areas. And the weak songs on BISD are 100000000x weaker than the worst song on GRODT.

You can easily stack up a number of tracks on BISD next to certain songs on GRODT is my point and there's not a significant difference in quality.
The Invitation
Then Days Went By
Death To My Enemies
So Disrespectful
Crime Wave
Stretch
Strong Enough
I Got Swag

I can pick songs off GRODT that are pretty close in quality to those. Granted the highs on GRODT are higher, and the lows on BISD are lower, but BISD has some quality tracks. People just seem to think that if it's not GRODT quality that it's garbage - yet I don't see any other artists being held to that same standard of having to put out another album as good as their best.

That moment you first heard Follow My Lead :mjlol:

That's when you knew the fall off was official.

That was the corniest shyt he ever put out. Not sure how it made it's way onto the album.

Curtis was a fukking awful album no doubt. I'd rate it like 4/10.

But he still had a few gems on there. As a fan I still look for the tracks that deliver, which does still happen with 50 (and other rappers that I like who have fallen off). Every album doesn't have to be 10/10, and if not I talk shyt about how much said artist sucks. I appreciate the good music and ignore the garbage.

Gotta disagree homeboy.

I'll never forget that high when I heard Blueprint the first time. You know that feeling I'm talkin about. That feeling you could only get when you hear an album you know is gonna be with you for life. The type of album you know you're gonna have memorized from front to back in about 3 months time.

So when he dropped BP2 a year later - even though I loved it and I fukked wit it heavy - I couldn't help but feel like it was a drop off. It's not a knock on the album itself I'm just sayin it didn't take me there like the first BP did. And that's probably the biggest reason why that album gets shytted on like it does. Not cause it's wack, but because the expectations were so astronomically high comin off the first BP. But when he dropped The Black Album I felt that high again. I think everyone did. That feeling of "aw damn this nikka just did it again." That feeling of an instant classic.

Nas took me there more than once.
The Mobb took me there more than once.
Em took me there more than once.

50 took me there once.

That's the difference.

And I love 50. Don't get it twisted I ain't hatin on the guy. But once he peaked it was a steady, STEADY decline.

why ya'll counting rappers pockets and not focusing on music?

MUSICALLY, 50 Cent is not relevant.

What is "musically relevant" though, how are you judging that?

Last time I checked his singles for SKI (My Life, Major Distribution and We Up) were all bigger than Ross' singles for Mastermind. Neither of them were really able to dent the charts but I'm just pointing out facts. (You can say 50 had Em and Kendrick features but Ross had Jay and Future features as well).

I'm just arguing for arguments sake here really but I don't think any of us really know how this album will sell for 50, and until we do, I'm just going to focus on the quality of the music which to me sounds like some of the best music 50's made since The Massacre.

Be honest how excited are you REALLY for a new 50 album?

Very excited? Moderately excited? Not so excited?

The thing with 50 is that nothing he does from here on out will ever get nikkas excited like his old shyt did. There was a time when you could not WAIT for new 50 material.

Those days are long gone.

nikkas could wait now. They could wait a long while.

I'm not talking about future potential.

I'm saying that since 2009, Ross has had better music.

50 Cent ...hasn't.

Dude is just making this tired and uninspired pseudo-gangster music.

shyts just corny at this point.

Honestly right now I'm more hyped for 50's music than I have been in years. With tracks like "The Funeral", "Can I Speak To You" and "Financial Freedom" and his mixtapes filled with good music, I think he's in a good space coming up to this album. I'm also hopeful he's going to stick to what he does best without pandering to the pop market now he's practically Indy.

Noone is really making good Gangster Rap at a level that affords excellent production right now, I'm hoping 50 can fill that void.

sorry but...I think we can just agree to disagree.

I think you have horrible taste in music.

ALSO lets not joke around.

50 is TOO FAR REMOVED from that shyt to even take it seriously. At least with Ross he manages play it up and stay connected to that lane...I just can't take 50 seriously otherwise.

Yeah, he dropped a lot of uninspired shyt that was repetitive that I aint like or bump. But thru that run he still had a bunch of good tracks that he put his heart into. Its the possibility of getting that shyt from the soul for a whole project that will keep fans checking ya dig.

But if you told me it wasn't comin out or that it got delayed again.... then :manny:.
