Am I the only person embarrassed about being a descendant of slaves?

Work hard, make money, and try to live and enjoy life to the fullest. I know that is what our ancestors would have wanted for us :yeshrug:

 nikka I'm muslim you know that by now

I'm talking about the people who culturally erased the Nubian Language started adopting Arab garb as the national dress and got the people warring with each other tribally

and caused people like me to question their African ness at times even with 4 black grandparents( 2 possibly mixed)
hahahahah..oh yeah my bad!!!
Masalaam.

Africa has been the world's go to place for slave stock for the greater part of 1500 years and our leaders were asleep to the potential repercussions of this until it undeniably went too far while the White and Arab traders prospered all the while. In the grand scheme of things, the way continent wide African leaders and cultures over the course of the centuries let their people and their continent be exploited and bled dry is nothing short of embarrassing, and if you are a black person alive today, you should spend every waking moment of your life trying to correct those wrongs

Them being slaves have nothing to do with tha cloth they're cut from. Our lineage is no more inferior or superior than any other african based lineage. Yes, genetics+experiences can influence u to make certain decisions and act in certain ways, but at tha end of tha day, within each and every one of us is tha agency and autonomy we posess as fully functioning and competent human beings, tht ultimately allows us to choose our own destiny. Yes, we were taken man, woman, and child, from our native lands, brutally beaten, raped, killed, worked and suffered through inhumanely harsh conditions, have had our identity stripped from us, and as a result, we are experiencing the ramifications of this harsh truth to this very day. Is it a fact tht our ancestors could have done more to try to prevent or maybe alleviate tha damage tht has came from tha hands of cacs? Absolutely, this is a fact. Not a knock on them, a lot of slaves had tha heart to challenge their oppressors, but nonethaless more could've been done.
However, it is ultimately a moot point to bring up. If u gain nothing else from what i have said in this post, know these two truths:
1. Those ancenstors you speak of, tha ones who bring up feelings of shame? Every single one of them had free will as humans to choose either live on their knees or die on their feet. They made a conscious choice every day regarding this issue.

2. You cannot change tha past.

With those truths being said, tha only relevant question 2 be posed is this: Will we, as tha current generation of blacks in america, be able to make tha hard decisions tht will propel our people towards a more promising future, and ultimately, bring feelings of pride upon our descendents? Only time will tell. But remember, it starts and ends with tha choices we make, everyday.

The second thing is that not all African Kings and Queens engaged in slave trading, which is why many of their kingdoms were attacked.

Nah. Be proud that you are a descendant of fighters who faced mental and physical torment that we can never imagine, but didn't give up so that one day we can be free.
But
At the end of the day all Africans are descendants of Kings and Queens.

Don't Western tricknowledge fool you.

They want to break your spirits.

Greatness is embedded in your DNA and always will be!
:mjlol:. Cmon bruh. We're just people. We're not special. Latching onto history from a millenia ago isn't helping our kids perform any better in school.

I never said that there weren't other groups of people who were enslaved, but more Africans have been funneled into chains than any other people on this earth in the post ancient world and that's just a fact. And the kings and queens who did not engage in the slave trade were not enough to stall the eventual mass depopulation and political destabilization of an entire continent so what does that even matter? These are trends that occurred on a macro level over the course of a millennia. Africans let Africans down, and it's up to us Africans in the continent and diaspora to fix it for our descendants
EDIT: Also it's kind of funny how most of those white slavery examples you listed involved Muslims who were still enslaving us at disproportionate rates while all that was happening so I don't really see how that negates anything

AS an African (first generation Nigerian American) whose family was actual African royalty (my Grandmother, rest in peace to her), I'm just saying it's the truth.

They have AAs believe their history started with slavery in the Americas...but what about the other 25,000 years before then? Do you just omit that from the history books?

That's why America loves to downplay the accomplishments of African people, because if fully analyzed without revisionism, it paints the portrait of a prolific and powerful people.

We Africans take pride in ourselves and our people. To withstand the adversity and still triumph in the face of it after so many years is an accomplishment that should be taught to the younger generations. I cannot stand idly by and watch the products of greatness not acknowledge it. My father told me the same thing and I heed that word to whomever may listen.
