Amazon to raise Prime subscription pricing in the US by $20-$40(update : raised to $99 yr)

Amazon Prime has cost $79 per year since it became available -- a bargain given that it covers both speedy shipping and a whole host of media services. Unfortunately, that low pricing might not last for much longer. During a conference call discussing its fourth quarter earnings, the retailer said that it might raise the yearly price of an Amazon Prime subscription in the US by $20 to $40. It's simply getting too expensive to offer everything at the current rate, Amazon says; shipping costs have gone up, and people are using the media services much more often. There's no guarantee that we'll see a price hike, but it's pretty clear that those future Prime Air delivery drones won't pay for themselves.

Ever since Best Buy started price matching Amazon the only thing that im using prime for is to buy textbooks. Adios Amazon

It would be wack if the raised prices. One of the supposed justifications for the hike is that prime members were ordering too much stuff.


Even at $119 it still averages out to $10/month which is still good as long as they don't trim any services

i been thinking about getting Prime but I work full time and live in an apartment by myself so when they mail shyt to me its a bytch to get them to leave the package at the door. I could get shyt shipped to my parents house but that's such a hassle.

how do they handle video game deliveries? i was thinking about buying Lightning Returns from them for the exclusive Yuna outfit. may buy a copy from Walmart at midnight then return the Amazon copy to them.

I won't renew. didn't order enough last year to justify an increase in my prime membership and the video selection is not impressive imo. I'll just have to wait an extra couple of days on my orders if they increase......

I wouldn't mind paying $120 a year if I could pay it off $10 per month instead of the whole $120 upfront
