American cities aren’t all the same. Los Angeles feels nothing like say Chicago. New Orleans feels nothing like Boston. New York feels nothing like Dallas. San Francisco feels nothing like Memphis. Also, this convo is silly. The US is one country. The cities do have diversity and feel different from each other but it’s stupid to compare it to Europe which is a collection of DIFFERENT COUNTRIES.

But the US got the concept of interstate from the Autobahn built by the Nazi in Europe.
What we have in the US takes the concept to another place. The autobahn is a highway but it isn’t interstate. I can ride the same highway across multiple states in the US and the roads are built to support it.

Its rare to see more than a 4 lane highway anywhere in Europe. Hell alot of roads are basically designed to fit one small car at a time. nikkas used to ship hummers and big ford trucks overseas and not be able to drive them off base lol.

Aren't all major American cities like New Orleans influenced by various cultures such as French, Spanish. Haitian. African etc? I don't think it's unfair

Not for almost 1000 years. And not to the same effect. Its one thing to have the French run the town for 70 years...It's another to have them run it for 200 then have it sacked by Goths, who run it and build shyt for 100 years, then Mongols burn it down...etc. And also, France and Spain were still European colonial powers of the same era, so there's a lot of shared ideology. That is not the same as going from the Holy Roman Empire to the European Union over the span of 800 some odd years. With multiple empires and cultural sensibilities wedged in-between

I also said that New Orleans is one of the few exceptions, just like Boston. And if you visit Boston you will see that it's built like a European city. Thin winding streets, pedestrian boulevards, and random dead ends.

Its not but I understand the point. In America we have a "big, stone or glass, skyscraper skyline" with perhaps 1 or 2 truely unique structures. ie. Space Needle, Stl. Arch, etc. Legit EVERY American city has this building...

The architectural differences between Venice, Florence, and Rome are totally different...down to the individual areas. So I get the point...it's just a really unfair one to make considering historical context.

:russ: Yes nikka. The United States has a template on how the cities are built. If you travel outside the states you'll know what im talking about.

I say that American cities are quite different from one and another for the most part. It's American towns and other smaller settlements that look the same.

It's also true that Americans tend to base city planning around automobiles. Terrible idea... Most Yank automobiles are shyt.

I lived there. Its 1000 percent true. Alot of the cribs in Italy were like they were from the stone ages on the outside. Usually the insides are more modern but stil.

And absolutely on the city design. You can walk to everywhere you need to go in european cities or take a train usually . In fact most roads are small and not built for many vehicles and are not built for large vehicles.
His analysis doesn't apply well to Paris.

Paris is pretty much like any other huge world city. They have mature infrastructure. Especially around the city center. Very segregated too. I seen alot of brehs the first time I went but I was staying in Champs with so it was mostly wealthy cacs around. The second time I went I tapped in with some brehs who were promoters and I saw a completely different city. There’s a “Black Paris” that alot of people don’t know about and you probably wouldn’t get there without knowing somebody.
