No they need to just go away. Have the service at the someone’s house. Many churches should merge, sometimes you’ll see like 3 on a street.
The land/building can be put to better use

Young people don’t primarily get their news from establishment mediaYoung people have chosen politics as their new religion. Same deal, us versus them. They just watch their preferred televangelists on cnn, fox news, MSNBC or whatever
This too but I still don’t think it’s close to 70%People are religious in name only mfs don’t follow the Bible you know that. Republicans would hate Jesús if he came back
Truth, it'll be 3 churches of the same denomination on one block. That's part of the reason many of them are closing. You have so many small churches of the same denomination or non denominational, occupying the same city spaces and on top of that they have to compete with the megachurches who gobble up the youth who are the lifeblood that would've went to the smaller churches.
They have to get that 501c3 tax exempt shyt and it helps when you walk into an established church instead of starting one from anew. Just because you are called to bring the word doesn't mean you are called to run and manage an operation like this.
In the Church of God in Christ
Elders have to pay dues of like 500, ministers 250, members 50-100, etc. per year. Churches have to pay like 750-1000 or they lose licensing and the property goes back to COGIC unless its your own building.
The whole COGIC has become a ponzi scheme, and I remember at convocations in Birmingham we actually had an elder in the pulpit strapped up at all times, even when preaching
Churches may fold but the big churches are not going anywhere, too many people are invested in it.

As long as he is eating, those other 105 churches he supervised were just feeder churches.
I didn't know COGIC went that hard.
Just goes to show that cats on here think that ALL pastors are "pimps" who take all of the offering money and buy lavish things for themselves and their families...
Nah, most of the churches out here (especially in the black community) have less than 150 members. Local people coming to worship and handle church biz. Not EVERY pastor is Crefflo or TD. They not ALL riding in G5's and asking their members to pay for them. Nah, a LOT of pastors are really out here trying to bring souls to Christ. Putting up their own money or not even taking a salary...working full time jobs and still making time to write sermons (my dad spent no less than 20-40 hrs a week doing that, researching, praying on it, writing and editing, etc)and visit sick members, burying the dead, taking care of the bills of the church, planning programs, etc it's hard work... A lot of the times their families suffer (I've experienced it first hand) because the pastor is doing so much for everyone else, he has little for his own family...
Most cities looking to turn old churches (a lot of them in prime real estate locations) into condos, housing, parking lots and the like...
folks would really be surprised to find out what the ministry really takes...it's not easy...but MOST pastors aren't living like TD Jakes and those mega pastors...a lot of them really care about their "flock" and want nothing but the best for the members and their families...But don't let none of that stop yall from ranting about how ya'll hate the church and why it doesn't make sense to YOU. Just wanted to share my perspective. I grew up as a PK (preacher's kid) and still am. Pops isn't so much a pastor now as he is dean/president of a seminary. He still preaches, just doesn't pastor anymore...wants to help teach/guide the young ministers in the faith
shame to hear this though. Churches are/should be a refuge to the community it serves
I see a lot of people bash the church, and while I agree the church has fallen off and could be better, I believe church is still necessary. Congregation with fellow believers is crucial.
I mention the church has fallen off, but I believe society overall has fallen.
