Puerto Ricans in the States may be the coolest Hispanics towards Black Americans culturally due to history but Ricans themselves are actually White af lol.

Yeah...there's Black and part Black ones but I'd say the average Rican I come across irl looks like a generic tan skinned Hispanic, Arab, or Southern Italian. Even their census shows that the Whiter ones greatly outnumber their Black population in the island.

Dominicans are different. They actually tend to look part Black or "light skin Black" on average but the immigrant ones have their own culture that's more similar to other FOB Hispanics than anything else. Hell, I've legit gotten ignored completely in certain Dominican restaurants before and had Mexicans/Ecuadorians cut me in line to order food just because they're also Latino and speak Spanish. Real shyt lol.

In all honesty, despite having Black and part Black people among them and having a high intermixing rate with Black Americans, Ricans tend to actually be the main "White Hispanics" you come across in the East Coast besides Colombians, Cubans, and Argentines.

So, it's a funny conundrum where a group of olive skinned Nuyoricans who are only 15-20% Black and the rest Spaniard will probably be quicker to ally with Black Americans than a Mulatto Dominican who's 50% Black or a dark skinned Oaxacan from Mexico who's only 20% European and the rest Native.

Ancient DNA study reveals ethnic cleansing impact on genetic landscape of Spain​

The study explored how gene flow and population structure in eastern Iberia changed over time using ancient DNA. The aim was to better understand the demographic impact of North African influence on the Peninsula, from Roman to early modern times.

Their results pointed to gene flow from various Mediterranean regions into Iberia before the Islamic conquest and showed that North African ancestry was already present in genomes from the 4th to the 8th century prior to its consolidation during the Islamic period.

Most significantly, the North African ancestry persisted in a Christian cemetery in Valencia until the 17th century, after which point this ancestry greatly diminished. This corroborates historical evidence for the Expulsion of the Moriscos—Muslims who had been forcibly converted to Christianity—at the start of the 17th century.


The Expulsion was a massive ethnic cleansing episode, during which an estimated 300,000 Moriscos were expelled to North Africa. After this, little trace of North African ancestry remained in eastern Spain. Interestingly, though, North African ancestry is present in South America, carried by colonists who left before the time of the Expulsion.

I would say that, in certain hoods throughout the Northeast, there's true comradery where we are cool with each other and don't beef.

But middle class White looking Ricans can be damn near as as other White Hispanics or Italians. They be looking down on so-called "ghetto" Ricans too who live in poorer areas while voting MAGA.

You won't find too many in NYC since a lot of middle class Ricans fled the city for years but you'll definitely find some like that in suburban NJ, parts of Pennsylvania, and especially Florida which is their homebase.

Also, FOB Dominicans largely operate in their own world even if they look Black. They'll have more in common with non-Black FOB Hispanics than other Black people. In Queens, you'll rarely see Black looking Dominicans living in places like South Jamaica, Cambria Heights, Hollis, etc. but you'll mostly find them in Corona, Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, and Ridgewood where there's hardly a Black presence. And they'll do business with and hire themselves and non-Black Latinos far more than they would AA's or West Indians.

Even in the Bronx where there's more integration, Dominican immigrants pretty much just hire their own or other Latin immigrants and they'll do business with Bangladeshis and Arabs far quicker than they would Black people, including Africans who are also prevalent in the South Bronx.

That being said, with working class Puerto Ricans who live in close proximity with AA's/West Indians or Americanized/non-FOB Dominicans in the hood, there's a lot of friendships and mixing and what have you.

Yeah some black people are moving weird, colonization and slavery did a number on us.
