Production wise this album basically has many of the same producers from Oxnard minus Dre, but some of his acolytes (like Dem Joints) are still here. Sound wise the biggest difference to me is that it's more soulful and nothing really sounds like a song you'd hear in an Apple ad, or in the trailer for some white hipster movie.

I'll have more to say later...it's not close to Malibu for me but it's a dope album. Can't wait to get the Free Nationals album btw.

You can also tell Interscope put this out to die. No interviews, no media tour...

He's not signed to Interscope. Aftermath/12 Tone Music

As I originally mentioned dre eas just as involved in this and they had all been in studio up 2 a few weeks back , puttin finishin touches on this

Everything Paak has said about this project was that he was a vessel for Dre on Oxnard and Dre let Paak do him on this one.

Anderson .Paak's Idea For "Ventura" Album Had Dr. Dre Scratching His Head

“Ventura is a blessing,” he says. “I told Dre when we were maybe about 80 percent into the Oxnard record that I wanted to actually do two records and he started scratching his head. I was like, ‘Trust me, I got a gift.’ I knew we couldn’t have 30 songs on one album. But we couldn’t come to terms.

On Ventura, Dre also loosened up the reins and let Paak take more control.

“Dre had a lot of trust in me with this one because I felt like he wanted to be really hands on with Oxnard, which he was, and I’m glad he was,” he explains. “I was able to learn a lot and allow myself to be really produced by one of the best and trust a lot with him. That was that. And he was like, ‘Cool man, you can do your thing on this one.’ He gave me a lot of leeway and trust.”

Anderson .Paak Talks New Album Ventura, Upcoming Tour, and Partnership with Jameson

With Oxnard, I felt like he wanted to get his chance to work with me. We started making music with him, working with his producers, working with his writers in his studio.
It's a learning process for him and with me. I had to compromise a few on the outside, and he's had to. I was learning from him a lot on Oxnard, and allowing myself to open up and be produced and to be more of a vessel. On his journey he's definitely learning all the same things, how to oversee and to make sure the songs were right, and trust in the fact of putting out more content on a regular basis is cool. And if he doesn't understand it, he's always like, I'm a rapper, I'm gonna trust that he knows what he's doing. I love him for that.

He let me have a lot of leeway on Ventura. He was like, it seems like you got it. I spread my wings on the production and on the writing and on these collaborations.

Nobody is just signed to Aftermath. They're an Interscope subsidiary.

℗ 2019 Aftermath Entertainment, exclusively distributed by 12 Tone Music, LLC. All rights reserved

12 Tone was founded by Doug Morris in 2018. It is currently distributed by the Alternative Distribution Alliance, an independent unit of the Warner Music Group

Interscope have never hidden their dealings with Aftermath before, why would they all of a sudden start now with Anderson Paak? :yeshrug:

Dre actually wanted "Left to Right" to be the first single on Oxnard, and Paak had to argue him down to make it "Tints" instead :mjlol:
:picard:

Sad part is... Tints wasn't a good choice for a lead single either, but anything would have been better than Left to Right.

I bet Dre was feeling himself when he had the NBA playing that song on their promo runs earlier in the year too
