The only one who showed her love in that movie was Igor. She was cruel to him because she didn't want to be vulnerable and get hurt again. I think she broke down because she had to. All the shyt that happened in 48 hours was so much and there was only one person who would've understood and been able to give her real comfort and it was him. He never asked her for anything and never tried to take anything from her.

I also think it's very intentional that you don't know what year the movie takes place in, but you get hints like the new year party happening(without the year being shown on TV or anyone saying it) and then at the end with the winter storm.

The movie really shows you how rich people feel about everyone else. To them, you're not a real human being. They lose all sense of true value, they don't even value the humanity of other people. This and the brutalist were great choices for best picture. It's definitely a movie that pushed the R rating. I bet there's a directors cut which would be NC-17.

We watched this tonight... Mikey Madison was great, she deserved that Oscar :whew: Great performance by her. Far as looks go, she's a pretty average chick but she definitely got some sex appeal in this :ehh:

Sean Baker did his thing but I don't know if I'd say this is 'Best Picture' worthy. It's like a higher level version of 'The Hangover'

Hmm. I have tried 2x to watch this on my TV and I keep turning it off right after she starts hanging out with him and his idiot friends. I need to focus on some of the other Oscar movies i have not checked out yet and get back to this in the future. I still have not watched The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown and Nickel Boys.

I'm very surprised this won the awards it did. Yes it was good but it was just that, good! It's really not great and worthy of the awards it won.

I understand, because I really didn't enjoy the film at this point, but the real film hasn't started until after that stuff.

I don't know how to describe it exactly, but the very early parts aren't important and not indicative of where the film goes and what the energy is.

This was pretty good :obama:

Second half was chaotic as fukk, sorta reminded me of uncut gems and good times type of chaos

Madison was great and looked damn good

I’m not sure if the movie was Oscar worthy but it was enjoyable

anora thinks her only value as a woman is the sex she can provide so I think she breaks down at the end because she can’t handle that level of intimacy :manny:

I also do agree that she thinks the only way repay Igor for his kindness is through sex

It was also interesting seeing the way Igor (more masculine) treats her vs Ivan (as a boy playing a video game trying to be a man)

A lot of people keep saying that this movie wasn't Oscar worthy, what film in 2024 do you think was better?

I myself haven't seen all the films nominated but this movie isn't no best picture. Like what makes it so special? The story is basic. The acting is decent, Madison is really good i suppose but the supporting cast isnt anything to write home about.. The direction isn't anything we haven't seen before.

It's a good little flick to watch when nothing else is on. And thats it.
