I agree about the ending, if you’ve ever met a girl like this it’s all trauma and trauma re-enacting. Unfortunately it’s far too common due to how much sexual violence happens. And these women are too scared to go after whoever assaulted them (for a multitude of reasons) so the cycle continues. That’s how dudes like Cosby rape for 60+ years with impunity. My last GF was raped shortly before we got together and she never reported it, and then she left therapy because it was too difficult and our relationship started to evaporate. There’s no way in hell this is a ‘best picture’ caliber movie but it was good.Really enjoyed it and I feel like the ending elevated it from being a really good film to something great.
The tone and aesthetic of this movie feels very different from modern films or what I went in expecting. If you switch the music from hip hop/dance to pop and rock it could be an 80s film. In many ways it reminded me of Risky Business. Not because both films have sex workers but because of the blurred lines of transactional relationships coming to a head.
Acting was amazing. Madison was fantastic and I thought the guy who played Igor was stunning. Another thing that felt like something from an older film...a very reserved performance, stoic yet charged at times.
