Any atheists that weren't ALWAYS atheist?

I grew up Jewish.. went to Sunday School and Hebrew School every week, got Bar Mitzvah'd.. the whole 9..

But even as a kid, when they'd teach us about Moses parting the red sea, and the burning bush, and all those unreal biblical stories, in my head I always saw it as just exaggerations of what really happened, or made up to teach us lessons. I'm not sure I ever honestly, truly BELIEVED what they were saying, although I did see the value in the social/communal aspect of having a group who looks out for each other.

I think because I was exposed to good people going through some pretty bad things early on in life, any "belief" I had was destroyed pretty early on

I agree! I often felt like I couldn't be open-minded or apply logic to Christianity. And the skepticism I had was harshly judged in the church and wasn't even acknowledged. I aint got time for that.

that's terrible...i consider myself christian but i don't really ascribe to the whole church aspect, my relationship with Jesus is personal imo. But i don't think we were put here to just be fruitful and multiply. Many pastors i have talked too say they would RATHER people question things, because that leads to learning. If we were given these abilities of complex thought and problem solving are we not to use them? I don't think its wrong to question God because the nature of mankind is inquisitive. I also don't think God is about to rain hellfire and brimstone on people just because they aren't perfect.

I was personally raised in a "non-religious" christian home. There was a belief in Jesus but there wasn't that crosses everywhere feel to it. My momz actually wanted me to study many different religions and find out what was right for me...it just so happens that Jesus is my homey.

I understand the agnostic position more than atheist but I respect it all, we are all just trying to navigate life in the way we see fit. And I REALLY don't see how people can't just talk about religion and spirituality (or lack there of) in an intelligent way.

Nothing angers me more than an atheist going "lol god " or a theist going "u don't believe in God!!! you going to hell!

respect everyone's beliefs, we'll see who was right in the end no point in arguing.

Agnostic here. Didn't grow up religious at all. I mean, we had a Christmas tree and shyt but that's all.

I'm interested in learning about God though. Too much going on in the universe for it to be all one ginormous coincidence.

At 10 years old I was hearing stories about a guy walking on water, or another guy living in a whale for three days, all kinds of bullshyt. Even at 10 years old, it was clear to me that someone wrote this and made it up.

I'm amazed everyday that full grown adults not only believe these stories, but kill people over them.

I think you're taking an over-simplistic approach to it all. I don't think it's about people walking on water and such. You were clearly missing the big point that there is something greater than you. Who gives a fukk about walking on water?

That's a big issue with some people. Its what makes people first question religion in the first place, and at a young age

Just know that not everybody is gonna subscribe to a belief system, when it is rooted in lies, exaggerations, and threats

Especially when its followers pick and choose which spiritual doctrine they're gonna follow according to their material lifestyle

is it just me or is atheism starting to become a religion? the other i had a group of athiest had me a flier about atheism and tried to preach to me about their belief in the lack of beliefs. They also have an information table set up outside my schools campus.

the whole time i'm like now athiests are acting like jehovah witnesses? It just goes to show you that people can be fanatical for just about anything. how long until we a some sort of church(i doubt they would call it that) for athiest people?

real talk that's one of the foundations in my belief, its all to systematic and everything is just one big fractal after another.

How all the minerals in the human body exist in the same percentages (from what we know) in the universe. How planets spin around suns, which spin around bigger suns, which spin around galactic cores, which spin around some other shyt.

Mistake isn't a good enough explanation to me, neither is the big bang. But then again, its my stance that science = God.
