Dogs aren't too picky about being left in a spot for too long from my experience.

Every dog I've had (And I've had several) get acclimated to the situation and adapt surprisingly well once they realize that this is what's going to be in the cards for them.

Once they have food and water and know for a FACT that you're coming home everyday, they cope and look to lavish you with attention the minute the key starts turning in the lock.

The last full breed Rottie I had used to make a statement by jumping on me from the couch at the door and knocking me down whenever I came in and I had to spend at least an hour putting him in chokeholds and scratching his chin, God rest his silly soul .

The most you might have to deal with is where he does his/her business if you don't house break him and according to the type of dog, you can prolly keep him confined to a section by a gate/playpen until you reach home.

Protip, if you're having a hard time working your dog into a schedule, cop some carpet strips for them to shyt/piss on, cause for the life of me, Dogs WILL seek out carpets to do their business.

Current Rottie puppy I've got would bypass everything and literally push himself into a corner where I've a thin strip of carpet left from when I hard carpet (Tore it out after the Hurricanes fukked my room up and put down tile) and would so how business there.

What kind of doggo are you looking to cop?

You have to get the right breed
A low energy dog
That doesn't need to be walked as often

I got Lab/Golden/German Shepard/Husky mix
(Got his dna ran)

I have him perfectly trained
But I am damm near retired now

And have beaucoup time to walk him and burn up his high energy

Get 1 of them Lil ass purse dogs

And u should be aight

Just train it to atleast use the puppy pads while u are away

Looking at a couple small breeds and a few medium. Mini schnauzer or Manchester terrier for the small. Standard schnauzer, German pinscher, or Brittany for medium.

Edit: I don’t mind paying for a walker or day care, but I’m weighing if the small amount of time we spend together during the week is worth it. fukk, we need to move back into a dog friendly office building

I would get a second dog so its not alone all day, thats cruel.
considering this as well. my parents are also retired and live 4 minutes away so i could leave the dog there, but their dog doesn't like other dogs, she's not aggressive but 100% will not play with other dogs lol

For those who have to leave your dog all day for typical 8-4 or 9-5/6 work hours

what do you do with your dog during the workday?

Y’all have a walker or send them to doggie daycare?

I really want a dog and was about to get one since I worked in a dog friendly building, but our new office doesn’t allow dogs

I come home in the afternoon and take them to the park. After that they just sleep the rest of the day.

My good friend has a dog walker and sometimes takes his dog to daycare.

I do , your best bet would be to adopt a dog that's 1 yr or older if you get a puppy and aren't able to spend the first few months with him it's gonna be tough as far as behavior goes

Other than that mine just chills and sleeps during the day (I have security cams ) winters are tough since I can't take him on long walks but he does have access to a yard when I'm home

I have a pitbull but as far as breeds go any of the larger breeds (Mastiffs, rottweiler, cane corso etc) are ideal in your situation since there low energy anyways

Right. Get a big lazy dog that helps. lol I have 2 American Bull dogs. I take them to the park to run in the afternoon and it wears them out. They literally sleep until the next morning.

If you get a small Male make sure to get him fixed or he will piss all over the house. I have a 81lb Male now and he doesn't mark in the house but this was a huge problem when I had small males.

My 2 dogs now are brother and sister. They get along very well even though they do fight every once in a while. I am glad I have them to keep each other company.

FYI female dogs have small bladders so they need to be walked more than males.
