Don't believe the hype. Don't waste your money. Those businesses feed off of suckers.

A minor can get their criminal records "expunged". When you are an adult, it's game over. On the law side of things, your juvenile and adult criminal and driving records are as permanent as volcanos in Hawaii.

so i'm basically fukked? there isn't a period that the record is wiped like how your credit report becomes clean after a number of years? damn. these businesses stay giving me the :childplease: after they run that background check. what's crazy is, i'm a college educated and skilled brother who's also in graduate school. but i figure that i'm just wasting money on this graduate degree if they're not going to give even that any consideration because of my record.

and white people wonder why we don't like them.
Well, yes and no. You are going to have to get whitening skin treatment and change your name to Martha Stewart.

It depends on what you want to do with a graduate degree? What is it in and what do you want to do? What did you do in your past?

Depending on your state you can get things taken off of your record. I did.

My lawyer did it for me so I really can't tell you how to do it or even how much it cost (if at all) because I paid him so much in the first place it was probably part of it.

Came in here to say this, I got my record expunged and it got me through college and now working a Corporate job.
I remember the day My lawyer told me I can now put "no" on that felony question, it felt like a huge weight was lifted off me :blessed:

different states have different rules for sealing or expunging records so if I was you I would do some in state research, go talk to a lawyer and get some advice.

Talk to a career counselor in your college. Double-check your eligibility to even get a teaching license. Like, I know if you wanted to become a nurse for example, you would be wasting your time.

does your record follow you to different states? btw, thanks for the info. this is an informative thread. i know a lot of nikkas here talk about the life and get all :troll:, but the repercussions are real, especially when you just want to live a positive life and contribute to society moving forward. cacs have the game rigged.

You're gonna have to either start your own business and get it on your own... or just accept working them minimum wage jobs (and even half of THEM don't hire ex-felons). There's really no middle ground for you.

I had/have the same problem. I had a couple of felonies on my record from when I was 21, but I was able to get them off of my record once I turned 25 (took me until 26 to do it though). It really set me back; I had a business before I got locked up (but had already sold it) and was in college, after I got that record though all that went away, and I've been working bullshyt jobs ever since (I probably could have built my way up in one of them but I don't have the patience).

What I wish I would have done is just started my own business at the time because even though I would have struggled a lot more financially (at first) I would be in a better position today, but the time has passed now so no point in looking back. Especially considering my probation officer was cool as fukk and she pretty much never bothered me at all except for three-month checkups.

Edit: My felonies were theft related though so obviously no one was in a hurry to hire me. I've seen dudes with drug related cases have an easier go of it (though not "easy" at all).

never too late to start your own business. don't give up that dream. also, i'm wondering if the relaxation of weed's illegality is something that will help me in the future. perhaps, once it's fully legal, i won't have to worry about the charge. probably wishful thinking, but i can always hope for the best.

i feel you about the bullshyt, menial labor that pays 10/hr and doesn't allow you to do much of anything but eat peanut butter jelly sandwiches and drink koolaid. shyt is :scusthov:

The hard lesson of life is that it's not fair and you are not owed a second chance. It's no one else's fault but your own that you are in the position you are in...understand that.

With that understanding you're going to have to work a little harder. Create a legit hustle or just find someone hiring who gives someone needing a second chance, a second chance. Good luck.

The worst part is that shyt just drains you mentally. I'm not the smartest guy but I'm pretty intelligent but I'm sure that even the smartest minds on Earth would be fukked working these jobs because it just dumbs you down. The brain's a muscle like anything else; I guess if you don't use it you lose it.

But, yeah, I'm going back into business for myself ASAP. I'm not even worrying about the business plan or the finances or anything else, I'm just gonna take that chance because I hate losing time more than anything else. And hopefully I'll be able to get back into school in the summer or fall.

A fail to plan is a plan to fail.

Look at this like an emergency...there is no other option so prepare yourself as much as you can. Even if you start 25 other businesses AFTER this one without a plan in the world, the one that you're going to live off should be planned out as far as you can plan it.
