When you don’t own your culture, this is the potential outcome. It’s old rich white people in boardrooms that’s making determinations on the trajectory of Black culture.

On the other hand, I absolutely hate it when Black folks here say they have no culture when a huge chunk of Americana is directly accredited to the cultural expressions of Black people being taken and repurposed for white consumption. The fact is, we’ve been convinced that Culture has no real meaning beyond entertainment when it’s a process of mass human domestication so to speak.

This is also a case of a phenomenon impacting Black America just a little harder. The shift from High Culture to Pop Culture has been across the board. Truth is, American culture in general is becoming more and more trash.

I blame Atlanta. And it started in hip hop when Atlanta took over. When people rang the alarm, nggas from the south got (get) mad so everybody stood down…ffwd now they run everything and influence everything. A city with a million strip clubs, feminized and/or gay men, and country ass dope boys…dictates black culture.

The moment I knew it was gonna be a problem was when women started going out of their way to say stuff like ‘I’m a doctor, I got 3 degrees, I’m classy… AND I love trap music’. Like that was mandatory for being black.

Black folk have reached charlton Heston ‘from my cold dead hands’ status when it comes to hood culture, it’s so embedded I see no way black folk will deviate from it
What was Atlanta doing differently in hip hop from a content standpoint that wasn't being done in the 80's and early 90's?:stopitslime:

Here’s my problem and like @2Quik4UHoes said similar , the representation and the decline of strong black men portrayed in media

In the 1970’s we had James evans, George Jefferson , Fred Sanford even though the latter 2 was comedy on they shows, they was still black men in their children lives, to fight off the black exploitation pimps and drug dealers we saw in movies

1980s u had bill Cosby and the professors on different world in black children lives to combat the Scarface type of movies

1990s with all the gangster shyt the media tried to show black men in negative light, you still had the lights of uncle Phil, Carl Winslow off of family matters, ROC, Malik Yoba on New York undercover who was always in his kid life and even the comedy like Martin, wayan brothers, you still had a positive image of black men and even with gangster rap u still had rappers with a conscious in their music to fight off these negative stereotypes these companies wanted to portray black men

Then the 2000s u had Damon wayans show, dl Hughley , Bernie Mac and a few others where black men still had pride and masculine energy on tv

But since 2010/11 the strong family oriented black man is no more in media.. replaced by gay black man, white men with black women and thugs/criminals who are the face of black men and u hear no complaints from our women on a whole about it..

U even have these new black men and these black women attacking Ice Cube who was trying to get us together with his plan for black America and the Roland martins, dl Hughleys , Vivica wax face fox, Lisa Raye and others got mad because cube was reaching out to the right and others because the dems didn’t want to hear it.

U got new blacks mad at Kevin Samuels who showed u stats to back up his claim about the decline of black marriages but have no problem listening to Angela Yee ratchet show about fukking and sucking everyone and everywhere with entertainers

The black community on a whole is in a coma and the chances are not looking good

He's telling you what ya'll don't wanna here, If you don't like being apart of the family, then you have options to either kill yourself or breed yourself out. I'm in my 30's and been hearing these exact same talking points verbatim for over 20 years. I agreed overall with what Bill Cosby said, however, Cosby was practical. He charged it to the game and made things happen for folks. Ya'll aren't doing that. But just crying. But here's the thing, ya'll are focused on outlier's that are people engaging in leisurely activities and entertainment. Of course that shyt is gonna be the lowest common denominator That's what it always has been since we was coming up. You think Jackass, Jersey Shore, Real World, Toddlers in Tiaras, My 700ib Life is exceptional entertainment that isn't just as mindless as some bytches twerking and some goofies rapping? Only thing is white folk don't sit around crying about why cameras ain't focused on they vanilla ass lives, and neither should we. There's bigger fish to fry, but as always ya'll focusing on the bullshyt. We really got grown ass man thinking the world is over cause people at an AWARD SHOW is acting an ass.

Grow ya'll asses up and support PBS or some shyt then. "dysfunction" GTFO.
It's about representation breh ..

Women raising children on their own. A woman does not know how to raise a man, many of them.

Women out here competing with younger women. The host pushing 35 and acting like she's 19. I was like this is a dayum shame.

OP I feel you breh.
