How can I forget. Leyet's and kool g trap's post reminded me, but you and badvillain need to look up "mindfulness meditation." I've heard it does wonders for focus.

But also peep that emwave2 link I posted.

Actually I meditate a few times a week. I generally take a long bath for 2-3 hours. After about 15-20 minutes in, I slip into a hypnagogic state.

Honestly, this is where I tend to do most of my problem solving. I can make sense of anything in this state.

I've been reluctant to find out I'm not alone in this approach:
NOVA scienceNOW w/ Neil deGrasse Tyson: Where did we come from? - YouTube

That em2wave link reminded of the beach. Which is another alternative method I use to release energy and gain positivity. I just don't like making the drive. I kind of got spoiled this summer, when I was able to hit up the beach everyday for a few hours and watch the sunset. It's a top 5 feeling in the world.

I noticed there's like a different level of consciousness, when you live in a landlocked area. Everything is so concentrated. I personally believe the bombardment of advertisements, clout analytical thinking.

I will and appreciate it. Would love to rid myself of a prescription, but now I feel useless if I don't take it.

Since you guys are so knowledge of this stuff, for about 5 years I abused my body with hard stimulants and synthetic drugs daily. I've been clean of all drugs(except my daily intake of piffery) for about 2 years, but find it extremely hard to find energy without adderall. Is it possible I've really fukked up my body's dopamine and other chemical levels?

I'm also a pack a day smoker and find that time to be the only time I can be at peace and relax while at work.

For cigarette smoking, I used to be worse. At a job I had at a warehouse a few years ago, we were allowed to smoke on the job, not even just during the designated break time. I'd smoke in the car, then at my place, after meals, when I went out, etc. I think I was even worse than a pack per day at one point. Never thought I'd be able to quit and I tried nearly everything from the patches to raw willpower. Then I read this book, and quit, easily. It really is baffling:
Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking: Allen Carr: 9780615482156: Amazon.com: Books

Almost a thousand reviews and it's still 5 stars on amazon. That alone should tell you something. Everyone who wishes to stop smoking cigarettes needs to read that book. No tricks to it, it just works. Go to a local barnes&noble, they most likely will have it if you don't want to wait for shipping.

As for healing your brain, I'm no expert really, but many people have cured themselves through the nootropics. Believe me, you're not alone in what you're reporting. Many people have shared similar stories to you on all the forums of the websites I've mentioned in the reply to Pool_Shark. Start off by visiting a physician and see if they could do tests and tell you whats wrong. Meditation or that emwave2 thing itself seems like a great place to start.

Here's more on the relationship between the emwave 2 and meditation:

True that, I at least recognize the problem. It's astonishing, because sometimes I'll get too overly stimulated, then I'll go for a walk outside. I do this an attempt to think consciously without any interruption. Then, I suddenly glance down at my phone, which has 4g internet, so there's a good chance I'll check my email & HL. :why:

The over-stimulation point is very real. I’ve had that feeling before and at times it feels like your mind is racing. Taking in all that information is going to lead to psychological problems sooner or later...it has to. :to:

Thinking about getting a cell phone that doesn't have internet access. Should make life easier.

Isn't it crazy how you'll be like "I won't use the net right now." You try and find other things to do and then a few minutes later are like "What if I got a quote, maybe someone dapped me, did that new Kendrick leak, what's happening on twitter, did a new podcast come out, let me just check real quick" 5 hours later :sadcam:

So the meditation is legit? I know @Megatron Island already posted a few links but I like books. Is there any book for a complete novice on meditation? I don't wanna read about any new age stuff about crystals or spirits or anything just real tangible ways on how to use meditation and why it's good for my brain. I have this picture of someone meditating legs crossed shoeless, lobster fingers on knees, saying hum over and over. Is there another way to do this?

Thanks.

He mentions some books in this video.
» New Video: Dave Asprey’s “The Upgraded Self: Top 6 Biohacks to Upgrade Your Body and Mind” The Bulletproof Executive

I can't watch the vid in entirety right now, but I'll post when he mentions it soon.

Edit: ok, about 23:00 in he mentions this: http://www.amazon.com/The-Art-Living-Vipassana-Meditation/dp/0060637242/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1349735455&sr=8-1&keywords=Art+of+living

you just have to give your body what it needs in order to activate its natural healing mechanisms.

so:

1) you gotta give up the smokes. switch to weed if you have to take off the edge but you gotta stop smoking cigarettes proper. if you absolutely have to do tobacco make sure you find some natural tobacco you can roll yourself, not the poisonous tobacco thats mass produced.

2) your biggest ally in this will be lots of alkaline water (about half your weight in ozs), and good nutrition multiple times a day.

my advice would be to get at least a half gallon of alkaline water daily. if you cant get alkaline then try and get natural spring water.

then take shots of vegetable powders daily for one week, then go fruit for one week, and alternate back and forth.

then you should get a good superfood vegetable powder (moringa, spirulina, chlorella, etc) and a superfood fruit powder (goji, maca, etc), and take those daily.

dont even mess with the fruits and veggies from your local grocery unless you have access to a farmers market.

3) also read: Science of Breath: Title Page and apply

4) and get some light exercise, even if its just walking

do all these things youll be fine in no time

I wouldnt even ask that question, or look up answers on the internet about it. Take that shyt to a doctor...get a second and third and fourth opinion. U come across the wrong answer on the internet starts making u paranoid, and it might not even be true

I wouldn't advise anyone play with nootropics unless you eat a lot of the right foods to give your brain energy, and those foods are nuts, seeds as these foods are high in fat and protein that energize your brain. When you stimulate your brain, if you don't eat the proper foods to give it energy, you can get psychotic and develop mental problems because the stimulation without proper energy will cause the brain to breakdown. This is why stimulant drugs cause so many mental problems, they work the brain too hard, and the brain doesn't get enough of the proper food to regenerate what was lost. Even too much coffee causes paranoia or anxiety.

This stimulation with lack of brain food is why I think autism in kids is seen high with college educated parents. All the thinking they do, stimulants they take, and lack of energy for the brain caused a breakdown in the brain, and their kids were born with weak nerves, and missing some neurons. Be careful playing with your brain with pure substances.
