Rap/hip-hop now makes me realize I'm old and what's on the radio and popular in it is not for people in my generation.

It's for the 90s babies now.

The 80's babies had their time, and it's over now.

The style, the "scene", the core audience it's audience it's geared towards, and all of the names are geared towards people that AREN'T us.

Rap doesn't represent the "struggle" anymore. It's music for kids in the suburbs who's only struggle in life is what snapback they should wear with their Jordans.

I still find music I like, but I'm just way too interested in other musics to care about rap.

Rap does represent the struggle. You need to understand rap isnt confined to whats on the radio

True. I guess I was talking collectively/commercially.

I haven't listened to the radio in years and it's beyond a non-factor with the internet.

Gonna listen to this new weeknd once my buzz kicks in. That dedication 5 was boring, but right now just waiting for Drakes album. There's some stuff I still haven't even listened to cause this shyt is coming out so fast. Then I got a lot of albums I play regularly. Kinda miss January when nothing was dropping and you had to really digest what came out in 2012.

Big Name rappers are trash in general but why confine yourself to listening to big name rappers. Thats where your problem starts. You will find Hip Hop is alive and well if your were willing to go on Youtube or search hip hop forums like these and take a chance on a rapper you have never heard before that you see mentioned somewhere. The radio seeks only to push the most ignorant and meaningless forms of this art

What other genre of music is exciting right now? Rap ain't in the best shape but it may be the only genre with real, earnest experimentation. Don't see what other genre, besides EDM, that is relevant.

And please, you say trap is killing the soul of trap but then list Ugly Mane? :stopitslime:

There is always good music out there, if you think it is bland, that is more indicative of your bland vanilla ass taste than anything else.

I mean last year I thought hip hop was in an exciting place, but by now we've had a streak of like 10+ mediocre albums in a row. The excitement is gone :manny:

You call Drake, Kendrick and Kanye trash but then mention your Ipod contains Wale, Ross, Meek etc. The fact is you just prefer listening to shyt rappers.

To each his own, but the nikkas I named that I don't listen to( except Kanye) are trash to me. Drake, Big Sean and Kendrick are trash to me and are the reason why rap music is so stale now. Their part of the reason why I never listen to the radio. You dudes on this forum tend to hype anything up these days. Most of the coli thinks MCHG is a classic.. Really? :snoop:

The only rapper I named that Is on my IPhonethat I can see being labeled trash, is meek.

My iPhone consists of:Joe Budden, Slaughterhouse, Some Joell Ortiz mixtapes, Meek, MMG, Wale, Ross and Banks.

My iPhone is probably more listenable than most of the coli's. :yeshrug:
