Look at some of the arcade games, I just beat Battle Block Theater a few weeks back and had a blast

There are great games out there that are different, you just got to look

Ni No Kuni is legit one of the only "game-y" video games that's come out in the past few years :wow:

of course it took a company like Studio Ghibli to put it out tho, it's a sad day when a company known for movies/cartoons has more nuts than actual gaming companies :snoop:

and it takes more than 15 hours to beat :blessed:

Great thing for you is if you started gaming with the PS1, you still have whole generations for you to explore. You got the whole Genesis and SNES era to explore, as well as the NES era.

this ... grab a wii and get the classic snes games

Co-sign. I want to know what happened to the platformers? I mean u had spyro(now its skylanders and he's not even the main star), crash bandicoot, rayman(finally went back to his roots with origins),sonic(games are jokes now), jak and daxter(heard the last two games weren't good). All the good companies either went bankrupt or changed their business model to focus more on the casual crowd. Would really like to see more platformers and stuff being made:manny:

The Wii (not wii-u) and XBLA had that covered in spades. But consumers didn't seem to care that it was available because we all got caught up in the graphics war. I had access to modded systems over the years and got a chance to try out everything. They there if you look for them. Moving forward you will only find those types of games on XBLA/PSN. They even got Crazy Taxi right now ready for you to download for like $5

I used to be a huge ass gamer, playing all types of shyt.

When the ps1, dreamcast, and ps2 era, I remember everyone had one of those CD holders dat came with like 60 plastic pounches dat u zip up, and damn near all of them would be full up with games.

Now a nikka only played like 2 or 3 games in the past 2 years :snoop:

Video games just aint fun like they used to be, not cuz im getting older(im only 18) but cuz they focus too much on bullshyt. Why df do we need 10 different generic ass FPS :what:

Why does every game have to be super realistic? Why does EVERY single game need to have the best graphics in the world?

I may be in the minority here, but I think that depending on the type of game, when you have too good graphics, it actually makes the game less fun.
What happen to games like

Crazy Taxi
Def Jam
Vice City
San Andreas
NBA Ballers
etc..?

It seems like Ipod and Droid app games tend to have more of that fun video game feel, than actually video games

That's why every now and then I pick up that Wii controller act stupid on Mario.

I actually agree I can't play half this shyt nowadays but I'm not really a gamer like that. My PS3 has collected dust to tell you the truth. The only thing I was feeling over the past few years was the God Of War series but even that got old. Hell I went back and got that Sega Collection with Streets of Rage 1-3, Sonic, Ristar, Altered Beast, Shinobi 3 and had the most fun I've had since forever. Tell you the truth I play PunchQuest on my Ipad more than anything else.

Too many games trying to be mini-movies nowadays. OD'ing on cinematics and trying to tell epic stories. At the end of the day gameplay/content still makes the game and story is just bonus. I could give a fukk if a game has crysis like graphics if the gameplay is trash. My fav console games this gen include ng2, borderlands 2, bayonetta, dark souls. All these games have basically 0 story and aint breaking any ground graphics wise but gameplay and replay value wise they're killing it

Its true, all this "mature, realistic" shyt took out the imagination and the fun out of games. Just because the average gamer is 32 years old doesn't mean that 90% of the profitable games must be the stereotypical GTA/ COD/GoW/ Halo nonsense that took over this gen. The likes of Mario and Sonic (yes, he is making good games again) are the first, and last, platformers in the market that people recognize. We need games that challenge our imagination and our minds, mainly single player. Less guns, more creativity.

While there is something to be said about all these lame me too games and trying to be more and more cinematic there are still a ton of good games out there.
Me and my girl played though Castle Crashers a couple weeks ago and it was nothing but classic goodness.
Another game I'd suggest if Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon. That was really fun, and funny.
Saints Row the Third is pretty light hearted as well.
There's tons of classic games available out there man, you just have to look for em.

Homage to Contra III

Real talk though, not every game needs to be all super-realistic. That's what going outside is for. Sometimes a cool art style will stick with people and resonate a lot more than the newest, most hyper-realistic graphics developers can come out with.

Realism in and of itself isn't bad-- Companies just need to remember that they need to focus on making the game :win: first.

Previous generations had their share of :flabbynsick: games too, but back then, you had more developers who were willing to try new things. Nowadays devs are too caught up with the video, and aren't really focused enough on the game. We need more crazy powerups, good level design, good music, and :mjpls: cheat codes.

And props to ugksam. We need more crazy games you can play and enjoy with your friends. I can still get down with NBA Jam for that reason. :win:

but yeah i feel yall, what happened to the fun shyt? im still waiting on another unreal tournament but im sure it won't hold a candle to UT2004 or the OG joint. These companies are way to focused on graphics...so many games can be done correctly with the tech we have. Imagine Megaman X done in 2d but with hd sprites :ohlawd: or squaresoft stop taking years to make one mediocre game and go back to that "Final" Fantasy mindset that saved their company.

Def Jam and NBA Ballers :gladbron:

Ballers was my shyt for a minute. I remember I had a modded xbox and PS2.

I stayed with the CD Holders. I had every game ever made on them shyts and all the games were kinda dope.

The companies focus way too much on graphics and realism for games to be fun nowadays.

you hear how these nerds argue about games looking more beautiful on computers and shyt, does that make the game better jabronies? it's still the same shytty game.

Ape Escape on the PS1 has the worst graphics know to.man but I'll be damned if I didn't play that shyt everyday.

Perfect example is how we went from Classic Tony Hawk games to the way too realistic Skate
