"Five Minutes of Funk" is the most underated rap song ever.

an OG I know thinks that's one of the greatest hip hop songs ever recorded. lol.

Honestly, song's boring to me. So are "Friends" and "One Love". Not boring like most trap, which is useless, grooveless and boring.

But boring in the sense that it doesn't really do much for me, but I recognize they're influential (and they have cool sounds in the beats that have sampled over and over). And I'll vibe to them for a minute, then my mind will start to wander.

I love Freaks Come Out At Night though. Best thing I've heard from Whodini by miles, and it's easily one of the best hip hop tracks ever

Man, listen..Run can still spit that shyt like we breathe and his blueprint is in everybody from Hov, Kane, 'Kast, WuTang, Ren, Cube, Facemob, Twista, 'Pac, B.I.G., G Rap, UGK, Ball & G u name it so do the math on that one bruh

Once again you dudes taking things the wrong way. I repeat. I respect what they did for the culture, they are THE pioneers of this rap shyt.. But they were wacccckkk lyrics wise.

Just like I'm sure you don't like a certain artist... Why can I not like run dmc?

Once I stopped comparing albums from the 80s to modern shyt I like I started appreciating them a lot more

Listen to albums in the order they came out and you will see a lot

Compared to everything else around the time the first album was nice

All I can say is do the One (Knowledge) on all Hip Hop history. Know who, what, when, where, why, and how it started. Digest sounds from the different eras. Imagine a rabid sports fan saying "I don't fux with basketball before Jordan. Everything before that was trash" His credibility would be nil.

On the low tho: the first Hip Hop I ever heard was Run DMC so to me their shyt is holy, but I tried to go back to Kurtis Blow and earlier and guess what: wasn't feeling it. I think it's natural. Difference is I would never call Kurtis lame. Run was 'Son of Kurtis Blow' at first. No Kurtis, no Run. Get the connection?

That 80's ABC hippity hop flow is dated...Dudes were before my time, and I never bothered to go back and discover them...

The only 80's rappers I mess with is KRS One...

Rakim, BD Kane, NWA, K G Rap and all those 80's legends, I dont mess with their music like that...

My hip hop legends started in the 90's...

I am not saying they are wack...

I am just saying why would I buy an AMC Pacer in 2012...

80's flows, lyrics and beats are dated
:dahell:

Kane was always my favorite outta the 80s rappers :wow:

Teddy laced Kane with fire on that track :ohlawd:

Shootout to scoob and scrap having brehs busting they ass in the living room tryna copy they moves :wow: :mjcry:

LOL.

Dood is probably in his 20s and like 'I was never into em' :dead:

I am not even going to front like I am always spinning the original vinyl of King Of Rock while spinning on my head in an adidas suit.......but just based on their influence of the artists I do really like puts their run up there as some of the best in the history of Hip Hop. They opened up a lot of doors not only in music but also in these guys getting advertising deals.

The fact that dude didn't survive past the mid-90s speaks for itself...He is the same age group as Jay Z...We tend to think that Rakim, BD Kane, Slick Rick, KRS One and etc are so much older...but they are Jay Z's peers...

Jay Z started in 88 and blew up in 98...These other dudes already had fame but couldn't maintain...

All about subject matter...

I believe if Kane went a little more vulgar he would've maintained success...he was already on that smooth,i'll take you bytch tip...if he would've switched up his lyrics to some gutter, thug type shyt I believe he would've easily survived and rolled with the times.

The music climate changed :manny:
