to get to 'The End', and the dragon, you'll need to find a Stronghold, and repair the End Portal

to find a Stronghold, you're gonna need to get lucky exploring underground, or use an Eye of the Ender. I'll let you do your googles to find out how to do all that

but in general you'll need some kind of home base. make a bed, which will be your spawn point. store your valuables, so you won't lose too much if/when you die. mine deep to get good stuff, like gold and diamond, to craft the best gear. learn to navigate and explore without getting lost. I usually mark my route with torches. you also want to use a lot of torches underground, because keeping an area lit will stop baddies from spawning there

you're gonna want a strong foundation of good gear, special ores, and knowledge of your area, before you even think about trying to get to The End

you need obsidian blocks to build the nether portal.

best way to not get lost honestly is to just use the map. if you're on pc just take screenshots of the coordinates.

also, if you're going to the nether, wait till you have a Brewing Stand so you can make potions for Night Vision and Fire Resistance.

as far as not getting lost, I try to mark my path. by my base I make a tall tower with a few torches on top, so I can see it from far away. then when I'm exploring, I put torches along the path I take. that way I can follow the torches back (shout out to Hansel and Gretel). eventually you can make a compass, which will point to your spawn point/bed

I always think it's funny when people think Minecraft is just about building with blocks. Survival Mode is pretty hardcore and deep

Diamond is rare and youll need an iron pickaxe to mine it. Its deep near the bed rock level of the game.
Obsidian is around lava and you'll need a diamond pick axe to mine it. You can get slick with obsidian though if you can find a water source near lava and direct the water towards the lava with blocks to produce obsidian.
The best stuff I've made is with water. I have waterfalls in my house and even one that surrounds my master bedroom in my castle.
Ya'll gonna make me turn the game on and do a stream to show off my creations.
I did it all on survival mode too. I've never been interested in creative mode.
