It sounds like you will get in state tuition. If that’s the case go for it. USC seems to be a nationally recognized brand.

Absolutely correct. Depending on what he wants to do post college this is the best advice. 9/10 this advice will get you the furthest.

It's hard to get in and expensive, but if you can get in and afford it..it's one of the best schools out there and gives you great connections. Go for it

Is USC more prestigious than UCLA?

Depends. While UCLA is the better school, in Cali, both are well respected, and in SoCal in particular, both are highly connected. But nationally, UCLA has the edge. That was also my experience at the grad school level, I saw more UCLA grads in prestigious graduate programs than usc.

But both are top 20-30ish programs so you’ll be fine at either.

It really depends on industry. LA is entertainment and more usc and ucla people are there, cal and Stanford run Silicon Valley (along with mit and Harvard). But, in ranking the Cali schools

1. Stanford
2. Cal
3. UCLA
4. USC
