rocksmith is the key honestly

a 100$ squire isnt bad sounding at all ... all the bells and whistles hardly make a difference ... the pick ups on your guitar is what matters
a 100$ squire tuned and set up correctly will sound really decent on a tube amp. Like 7-8/10 ... but I wouldnt recommend buying a tube amp until you really lock in and need that beautiful tone

I would honestly recommend a cheap LINE 6 amp, the preset tones are amazing and people laugh at how unprofessional that is... but honestly. The best piece of advice I can give you is HAVE FUN doing it and you will do it longer. I bought a BOSS ME 70 Pedal with like 60 effects built in. Every person told me not to buy a digital pedal and I wouldnt need 60 effects. But I would sit and have fun for hours with each and every setting which helped me practice for longer.

Another tip I learned a few years into playing is, start in the 1950s ... start where guitar became guitar moreso... and work your way up as it evolved. Rocksmith will skip this step and give you easier songs that build in difficulty, thats why its amazing to have. But if you are just jamming on an amp, start with something simple. Ask for songs that are easier to play to build techniques too. With chords, you may not get the chord for a week or more... but then one day you'll just play it without caring or looking. Dont be afraid to have fun and just jam basic shyt...too much settling for hard songs will make you not want to play. Jam some power chords or whatever rhythms you think sound good while you have fun. Play to backing tracks on youtube.... it gives you the freedom to create and figure out scales. Strat will sound trebley, Telecaster will sound thick and sharp and Les Paul will sound deep and buttery. I own all 3... if you are into heavy stuff grab an Ibanez .... I dont have one but have played alot, they have a very good tone for deeper rock and metal.

So I'd either grab rocksmith to learn and have fun at a pace
or grab a cheap line 6 amp and guitar and jam for a year or two while I figure out tunings and theory of guitar
remember, the more fun you have the longer you will play

Yeah, starting out sucks, but I recommend sticking with it. I've been playing for 4 years now and can't imagine life without it.

What chord are you struggling with? Make sure to just stick with open chords and don't try to learn them in alphabetical order. Because A major is hard as fukk. Especially if you try to play it with one finger.

It depends on where you're starting from and how you learn.

I've played session guitar and bass as well as piano in a band like setting. Not band like school band but go over to someone's crib who is making music or beats and just jam.

The way I learn is different from most, it's not scale or chords. I have to hear it or know what it's going to or needs to sound like then I put it together.

Like you probably don't know Mary had a little lamb but if you sat in front of a piano and pressed each key, you could flesh out the melody. Do that, add chords, different octaves, get someone on drums and keep the beat, add a bass player and boom.

I have the rocksmiths. They are cool but I don't like playing other peoples songs. Cause unlike most people who are remembering the notes and chords, I'm remembering the exact structure which I can mimic hundreds of times over without thinking, yet when I'm done I can't just solo. I have permanent beat block/music block.

if you’re buying an electric guitar then you should be good because I heard it’s a lot easier to handle the strings than acoustic.

it’s this D chord

I’ve also been looking at a few music theory vids. This woman below in my opinion teaches it pretty well.

I also bought this book off amazon which should be coming in a few days

I bought an Epiphone Masterbilt 500cm acoustic in December. This is probably my favorite acoustic guitar ever. I've had Martin's and Taylor's and this sounds better than anything I've owned, and at less than 1,000$

Everyone has different starting points and different goals with guitar playing and music in general.
Starting out from absolute scratch, I think it would be helpful to have an private instructor or at least a more experienced player to go to. Simple things like how to tune the guitar, how to hold the guitar, etc. can be made much easier in person. Also a decent guitar is very important, be sure to read this article Best Compressor Pedals 2020 – Reviews and Top Picks . Yes these things are covered in the lessons here, but some things are just best explained in person. Motivation and self-discipling are very helpful in any deal.

I taught myself using a couple of thin books that were available 50 years ago. They showed how to make some of the chords and gave some picking patterns and that was about it. There's no doubt that I would have progressed far further and faster with a human instructor, but I was a teenager with no money and a desire to "do it myself". From school band experience, I also read music and just started playing every song in every song book I could find. And off I went into my own world.

However, if you can find an instructor whose interest and expertise is in the kind of music you want to play, that will be the best start (assuming you can afford it). They can correct your mistakes before they become habits, and knowing your lesson is coming and that he expects certain progress, you will probably find yourself practicing more with a purpose. Also you can ask questions about things that concern you, which you can't do on YouTube.

Also you should be tech savvy so read specific techie music blogs like https://scan-score.com/en/how-to-digitize-your-sheet-music/
