I think it’s a wrap. They dropped this page detailing all the new merch and content and even have a sale for FFIX Remastered. I don’t think it’s happening.

8 should have been remade before 9 anyway.

Hopefully 8, 9, and 10 can get real deal remakes someday. Squenix could have honestly redone 6,7, and 9 (maybe even 8 or xenogears) in the styling of octopath traveler, in like a half the time, probably less cost, and still made fans happy.

If 7 Remake sales were disappointing I can't imagine that they would fund a 9 remake.

The rationale behind it hopefully is they aren’t doing a full blown ground up remake like 7 for it.

if its just a high quality graphical UE4/5 makeover with some added QoL features, voice acting and a bit of tuning for the battle system to make it a little faster.

It’s one of the most overlooked titles due to the proximity of the PS2 launch and X. I could easily see it making a decent return as a multiplat title
