Are any of you addicted to saving money?

I know some people here have probably seen the FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early) subreddit, and some of those folks there seem like they're addicted to saving money. Any of y'all like that?

My big problem is that I'm "penny wise and pound foolish". I can be super frugal, and even cheap with most things (severely), but the exceptions are when I go to the casino or I go out with a girl I've already slept with while in another country (i.e. I'm not in town for long and who knows when I'll be back if ever, so let me spare no expense). As for the Casino thing I have sporadic addictions, for example, I'll go months without visiting one, but then when I do, I'll blow 1-2K in a week. As for the thing with the chick(s) I already slept with, I'm still kind of beta in some aspects and "don't want to lose them' (even though there is no real commitment from either side). I figure I can spend less on them when I improve my dikk game and my cooking game (less reason to "date" outside).

Anyway, besides the "write it in your diary" response, any of y'all mostly super savers, but have a small number of things that break (or bend) your saving discipline?

Yea. I built up my emergency fund to 11k and I’ve been buying 1 or 2 ETFs a month since I started working last spring.

Not addicted per se but I’m grinding hard to fight stupid temptations. I have my guaranteed saving and investment money each paycheck but usually have extra money towards next payday that I’ll put in my investment account if I don’t buy some wants throughout the weeks ect.

But yeah. It feels good to look at my investment accounts and stuff and see money stack.

Yeah I calculated my major yearly expenses (car, rent, insurance, student loan), then realized how much of my income I could save / invest afterwards.

I have a savings rate of 70% but I want to get it up to 90% fairly soon within the next couple years as I eliminate debt, get rises and keep my spending style low.

I say my goal between savings and investments is to have 100k(not counting 401k)saved up by the time I’m 35, then I’ll start to have some fun. Truth is there’s a good chance that by the time I reach that 100k, I’ll have my sights on trying break, 1million soon after.

I know I’m trying be like @FabTrey and get my money up. :lift:

I also like @winb83 quote, “ I’m not frugal, I’m cheap.”

I’m not quite there yet because I do like to splurge on certain items.

It sure is a relief to not be stuck in a check to check lifestyle though. I guess that’s what fuels me right now, I’ve been broke as fukk before and I’m not going back. I want to distance myself as far possible from that.

I'm addicted to savings, investing, conscious purchasing, diversification, financial independence and the long-term...

....all the while looking like a bum.:smugdraper:

Looking like a bum? :gucci:

it does not cost a lot to look good. Just because you don’t have designer clothes does not make you a bum.

When you stop paying a monthly payment to the gym and buy a squat rack and barbell you can shop at the most basic of stores and buy the cheapest of clothes and not look like a bum since those cheap shirts and pants fit you better.

"Bum" is an exaggeration. I like being less conspicuous.

Exactly, I always look presentable. Fresh cut, clean shoes etc.....

But never some merchandise that cost $200, I did that in my youth, mainly to “impress” others meanwhile all it did was left me broke.

Only exception I’ll make is for a suit / tuxedo simply because of the opportunity cost associated with it.
