you don't "own" any of the music you stream, unless you got a memory card, drive of some sort. otherwise you buying it for no reason.

Technically you don't own the music on the CD. You don't have any rights to the music. You're just purchasing a medium for play the same as streaming. The only difference is that technology has vastly changed the mediums by which people listen to music on a mass level for the consumer

u know what i mean tho, you can always rip the cd to mp3 and add it to your phones and stuff instead of downloading it.

Guess that's why they are still making cd's. You honestly thinking labels going to keep making a format that don't make money?
They still make cassettes too but now it's been adopted by indie labels and hipsters.

Vinyl has made a bigger resurgence simply because there's more music to be had on vinyl with it's 100+ years of being in production compared to the CD's meager 30 in comparison. It's more sought after and valuable cause many vinyl releases can't be found on CD or tape. Just like there are many movies and programs that can only be found on VHS or Lazerdisc (beyond dead formats) as supposed to DVD.

I'm just saying over the years as the demand for CDs and physical media decreases the production will too. And those already that have been produced and in the market will go up in price.

You're paying for the costs that go into the production of the music.

Royalties
Distribution
Credits
Production
Mastering
Packaging
ASCAP/BMI
Record Labels

And let's not forget about the studio time that the artists have to use to record their music and the artists themselves that make music for you to enjoy and not pay for and justify not paying for.

It may become a collector thing....

Out here in Cali there are still mad record stores that sell vinyl, it may become a niche thing...
It already has. Especially on discogs.

I've been seeing rap albums that came out in the 90s, like obscure stuff go for $100 plus and that's on tape alone... :whew:

yea VHS tapes and all that stuff is a thing of the past. i find myself sometimes watching movies on tapes but not alot. and alot of people do buy music in vinyl, cd's are still in style for the time being. look at Adele, she's selling like hotcakes so it's not about cd sales. it's about the artist and how popular they are.

I buy CD's of artists I feel deserve the support, but I vary rarely ever actually listen to the cd. I still only listen to musica digitally but I will not pay for something and not get a physical product for it

Iono bruh's im fairly old myself, and even I am finding myself hopping on this streaming/itunes wave.

The ease and access of digital music is too convenient in this day and age. All the artists Ive supported this year have been through itunes. Especially with this new trend of midnight and surprise drops, I dont have time to wait a whole day then go stand on a line to cop a physical.

New model cars and laptops dont even come with disc drives. I think its about time we all just embrace this new medium and go strictly digital for the future.

The highest selling rap album this year (IYRTITL) did a milli off itunes, shoot I would argue that going digital only actually helps sales in this ADD "click a link" culture the youth are currently engaged in.

I still buy albums.

:manny:

It's a novelty now.

I buy albums, but they aren't a convenient format.

:russ:

nikkas still riding around with big azz cd booklets the size of a photo album in 2015?

if it aint a cd i aint buying it.

Also if they have a market and a fanbase that warrants production on CDs cause they have people who will buy them. Someone like Adele is less of a risk than say, 50 cent to spend money in producing CDs for them cause the label at the helm knows they will get a return on their investment and then some.

If you want to come up as a rapper in 2015 it's almost as if you have to be friends that have well known and well read blogs or pay your way into the game which alot of people do.

Mad rappers on worldstar pay to have their videos on there, they aren't organic successes, the video views prove it. The numbers aren't matching up to the reality of the situation.

How does your video have over 1 million views on worldstar in a day but your mixtape on datpiff doesn't even have 1000 downloads and it's been out for 4 months?:dwillhuh:

It's easy to pay bloggers off to promote your music too. Anybody can be bought.

The fact of the matter is labels have more money to blow to ensure their artists give them a return on their investment.

The game is just very oversaturated nowadays, it couldn't be more of a better and worse time to be a rapper than now.:wow:
