The Lox aren’t overrated.

They inhabit a somewhat niche corner of hip hop.

You have to understand they’re not artists with mass appeal and their albums reflect that.

Within their world of hardcore, lyrical, street hip hop, whichever way you want to frame it…they’re legends.

I don’t even think you could mention another group that compares to them within their genre. So if you’re saying they’re overrated…overrated compare to whom? Solo artists who occupy a different lane? That’s a goofy argument.
Even in their lane, they don't have a good album though - their counterparts that they're ranked higher than do...groups or solos.

Their legacy is attached to being to 2 of the biggest movements in their era.

Yes, they're vastly overrated.

Name them.
Because I don’t agree.

Who gets linked with them? Dipset? Objectively worse.

Nevermind that I think the Lox have solid albums and even legendary mixtapes which could be considered albums themselves.

But why should I care about a legendary album anyway if their work on individual songs and freestyles is practically unmatched in their genre.

'We are the streets'. It got 4 mics in The Source back when they still had clout and Integrity.

The Sheek Louch solo and Ride or Die b1tch might be the only weak joints on there.

I think they might even be underrated taking to account how the rap game is now. They are some heavyweight iconic veterans of the golden era and still relevant and popping even today. They carry themselves with class and dignity never embarrassing sh1t, they act like grown men. That last Kiss project 'Ignatius' was dope with that Dej Loaf and Nino track.

Hailing new gen rappers as dope lyricist is overrated to me, earn those accolades by making dope music with dope darts. The Lox stay known for that :hubie:
It didn’t get 4 mics fam. It got 3.5 mics just like money, power and respect.

Like you said, that was when the source was still a
Reputable and sought out publication.

And neither album deserved anything higher than a 4. They were both rated properly in real time and now

I think you might be right because in real time I remember the source words saying too many skits and shots at puff. So you probably correct there.

I checked on google it said this, but anyone can fill this in these days.

The album "We Are the Streets" by The LOX received a 4-mic rating from The Source Magazine. The Source Magazine's rating system, which ranged from 1 to 5 mics, was a well-known standard in hip-hop for album reviews

I am agreeing with you though, I can recall them sh1tting on it a little bit lol.

Great Team players ( Styles and Jada), poor management

:manny:

If we being real, the output of LOX << G-Unit

Comparing mixtapes, albums, touring, etc.

Benefited heavily from being in the right place at the right time during the prime Bad Boy AND Ruff Ryders era when both labels biggest stars co-signs meant everything.

Jada was seen as the de facto leader and was a go-to ghostwriter for Puff so that made the group seem more “elite” than they were.
