Top tier rappers and they have so many individual classic songs that they can't be overrated, even if we're saying they have no classic albums.

They have great albums that are personal classics for many, just nothing that was remarkable for its impact. Bad timing and some bad production held them back imo. They earned their place but they probably needed a solid Hip Hop producer behind them for a classic album. By the time their Bad Boy LP dropped, the label was running on fumes and that clean production style wasn't the best fit for them. Its not a bad album, it just would have been better if it dropped in 1996. You could say Swizz was the closest with WATS but hes more of a singles producer, he never produced a classic album. Then almost everything else group or solo has had like 20 producers per album so they never really had a signature sound.

Yes

How hard is it to just rap about killing people and selling dope and being tough for 90% of an album? And it’s not like you’re racking your brain technically either, just some regular ass simple syllable work and surface ass bars. 🤷🏽‍♂️.

No disrespect, they’re legends regardless but yeah, blah, not very impressive imo. And, the biggest point, their albums as a collective and as solo acts are all “okay” at the very best, 🤮, none of them have a great album after being here damn near 30 years…probably due to the aforementioned reason, super duper limited scope and concepts/content

The Lox aren’t overrated.

They inhabit a somewhat niche corner of hip hop.

You have to understand they’re not artists with mass appeal and their albums reflect that.

Within their world of hardcore, lyrical, street hip hop, whichever way you want to frame it…they’re legends.

I don’t even think you could mention another group that compares to them within their genre. So if you’re saying they’re overrated…overrated compare to whom? Solo artists who occupy a different lane? That’s a goofy argument.
Mobb deep makes “hardcore lyrical street hip hop” and shyts on them :mjlol:

I love the Lox and they are rated properly to me.

They not in that outkast, nwa, tribe, ball and g, ugk, mobb deep, goodie mob, bone, wu, pe tier......groups with skills, hit records, large cultural impact, etc

Then the next lower tier would be groups like the clipse, hot boyz, etc

But id put them in the tier under that. Theyve always been one of my.favorite groups since the first bad boy album and my favorite is we are the streets. With the guest verses and mixtapes and being dope mcs for so long they're well respected.

If you gauge them by record sales etc then a lot of groups beat them.

as a level headed approach this comment was handled well

imo the lox are unique because they have classics not in retail (mixtape, freestyles)

if some if these tracks aint above average then i dont kno what we listenin to

Very smart assessment.

LOX been my favorite group for well over 2 decades :mjtf:

Kiss Of Death and T5DOA are both near classics. KTGG was :dwillhuh: at first but bar wise was a dope ass album. Kiss other 2 albums were dope too. Last Kiss just had too many features, Ignatius was solid :ehh:

Kiss discography is dope album wise, maybe not as dope as it coulda been but way better than acknowledged :stopitslime:

And far as mixtape catalog, G Unit the only other group fukkin with LOX in that regard :umad:

Sheek Louch debut and sophomore albums were both fire and he dropped the best solo debut of the 3

GAAG near classic too but I got KOD and WWM over it :ehh:

D Block>>

fukk what y’all tombout :umad:

Lox belong nowhere near a conversation with Mobb Deep. IMO Mobb is a step or two behind Tribe and OutKast as the most consistent groups of all time in terms of output. That’s the convo they belong in.

Album for album there is literally no comparison. And Jada at his best was never fukking with Prodigy at his peak, even counting the mixtape run. P backed it up with group AND solo albums.

As a Lox fan, it’s ok to admit they tend to be very overrated.
Lol at thinking outkast is relevant.

Tribe? Lol

Lox put so much more classics than them...
