My Father in Heaven
Lets look at the facts, theyre an old team full of role players, fringe all stars, and young guys who dont really show flashes of stardom

nobody wants to play for Pop Buford and their military way of running things anymore, especially in 2021 where players can basically go wherever they want

the rest of the NBA has finally accepted that Europe and the rest of the world produces actual all star level talent and scouting them/throwing them the bag so they dont have that advantage

San Antonio is a very small market and no free agents want to live or play there

Instead of making the heir to Popovich, Tim Duncan, respected Spurs and NBA Legend who players will actually listen to and give a chance, they chose a woman :picard:

im putting the Big Boss call on San Antonio, ITS OVER

you landed Duncan and Robinson and stole a chip in 05 but that string of luck is never happening again, the Spurs are now the NBA’s raiders, cowboys, dolphins, etc franchises who will not do anything of note for 30+ years with :flabbynsick: fans talkin bout “Remember Tim Duncan? :flabbynsick:

what yall think?

Done being a competitive franchise?

What is this supposed to even mean? They had a playoff streak of 22 years. That level of consistent winning is unprecedented. But every great run ends sooner or later. It's true of any great Lakers, Celtics, Bulls, Heat ....hell ANYONE'S run.
They will rebuild and get after it just like everyone else.

Dummy.

Just have to get through this Derozan, Mills, and Gay stage for another year and they’ll be fine. Too many guards on the roster and for whatever reason, this team gets injuries to contributing players at the worst times

we need a TRUE point guard and a legit big man who can score

Hell Yeah :heh:

Back to irrelevance without the help of the NBA.
From 1976-77 (their first year in the NBA) through 1995-96 (before Robinson got hurt) the Spurs had a .557 winning percentage and were in the playoffs all but 3 seasons. They weren't championship teams but they were competitive just about all the damn time.

They just need one of those young dudes on the roster to stand out from everyone else. If not, they’re going have to draft and develop one as they won’t be back enough to take into a top pick.

Yeah but that's the game.

They found Kawhi who was taken 15th (albeit by the Pacers)
They found Ginobili (57th overall) and Parker (28th overall) ...though I'll admit that Pop didn't really think too highly of them at the beginning.

Yeah, having Duncan was a major part of it all. But I don't think you NEED a top 5 pick to accelerate a franchise's development.
I understand completely what you're saying. I'm not disagreeing with you. Just for the sake of highlighting it, I want to list the top 5 picks in the NBA draft going back a decade or so.

2010: John Wall, Evan Turner, Derrick Favors, Wesley Johnson, DeMarcus Cousins
2011: Kyrie Irving, Derrick Williams, Enes Kanter, Tristan Thompson, Jonas Valanciunas
2012: Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Bradley Beal, Dion Waiters, Thomas Robinson
2013: Anthony Bennet, Victor Oladipo, Otto Porter, Cody Zeller, Alex Len
2014: Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Joel Embiid, Aaron Gordon, Dante Exum
2015: Karl Anthony-Towns, D'Angelo Russel, Jahlil Okafor, Kristaps Porzingis, Mario Hezonja
2016: Ben Simmons, Brandon Ingram, Jaylen Brown, Dragan Bender, Kris Dunn
2017: Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball, Jayson Tatum, Josh Jackson, De'Aaron Fox
2018: Deandre Ayton, Marvin Bagley, Luka Doncic, Jaren Jackson, Trae Young
2019: Zion Williamson, Ja Morant, RJ Barret, De'Andre Hunter, Darius Garland

There are some good players in that list. How many of them are "turn around your franchise" caliber?
5? 6 maybe? Out of the 50 above...

It's complicated.

You don’t necessarily need a top 5 pick, but a lot of teams in the league these days are horrible when it comes to drafting and player development. They’d rather have a top pick that’s “tailor-made” instead of one they actually have to take the time and effort to develop.

Jokic is the prime example of not needing one, but a lot teams wouldn’t have even given him the reps to develop based on where he was drafted.

Yeah you're right about that.
