Can we finally accept that even mid popular rappers 42 Dugg and EST. Gee have alrwdy touched more paper than our favorite rappers from the 90s?

Or do we continue juelzing and ignoring the fact?

I didn't know people ignored this. This is pretty clear. Rappers now have so many more avenues of making money, plus their show money is waay better (which is really where rappers see big bread). The merch, the advertisement deals, walk throughs, product placements, etc...

A rapper back in the 90s sold 100K off his album was still living in the hood. A nikka selling 30K off his album now is eating LOVELY. nikkas who most of us have never heard of are walking around with 6 figures in their pockets. Rappers in the 90s that weren't huge names were barely getting by unless they was hustling.

Yes, they have. Venues, endorsements, etc have opened up to hip hop since then.

BUT, 90s songs pop up in ads today, and artists with hits from that era still tour and eat.

360 deals have negative stigmas but they're not always bad depending on what you want to do with your career and how big you want to be. Yeah, record labels eat off everything you do, but you'll also be making a shyt ton of money. So it's a give and take.

You can eat off a smaller portion of a large sum or you can eat off a larger portion of a much smaller sum

It depends on the rapper because the 90's hustle was different and MOST of our favorite rappers from the 90's ate pretty good when you think about:

Soft drink commercials- It is crazy how many of our favorite rappers were a part of these campaigns from Sprite to Mountain Dew

Movies- popular rappers from the 90s were scooping up decent movie roles in the 90's

Clothing ads- Tommy Hilfiger, GAP, and a lot of the other mainstream clothing lines had rappers for their campaigns

It’s negative because artists don’t own their content and always end up complaining.

Depending on the artist a 360 is probably their only option

In a way yes, and in a way no. There’s definitely more avenues to making money today, but I have a hard time believing that an artist with 4 million streams that gets a $76 check has more money than previous era artists. This “album equivalent sales” stuff is :russ::hhh: when the artist is getting .00476 per listen or whatever at certain points. Even the major artists like Drake and Beyoncé are getting screwed over.

Dmx really made sales and ended up being worth $50,000 when he died.

These new rappers are not even selling 10 percent of what DMX did.

It doesn't sit right. We will all see in time who has real money.

When rappers are around 50 - that's when the truth comes out and can no longer be faked.

    Good luck to everyone.
