Kendrick's verse seemingly got cats open on this now.

Papoose called out Drake AND Kanye.

Buddens callin' out Meek and Jay Elec.

No more of that p*ssy "he COULD be talkin' about so-and-so" shyt, the bar has now been raised to where names are being dropped and identities confirmed.

Really, alot of it stems from the fact that rap is currently in a place where the climate isn't dangerous and nikkas ain't dyin' over this shyt. So any perceived "beef" will only be kept lyrical.

Like, why SHOULDN'T it be this way? Rappers make diss songs containing a bunch of tough talk against other rappers all the time and then be like "it's just music, just in fun"...what's the difference between that and what Rick Ross is doin', e.g., sellin' an image that everyone knows isn't true but it kinda doesn't matter? They're both based on a false premise. :manny:

But yeah, I don't want to see no more of these dudes bein' "cryptic" with their insults and disses, that era is over.

nope just wait till drake drops his response
:russ:

Not to mention, it hasnt made for better music yet.

ACTUALLY, the best diss so far, WAS subliminal (SLR II)

Its not the name dropping that is of value, its the boldness and creativity... Papoose's diss is proof that you can say a nikka's name and still drop GARBAGE

no.

You know who was the king of sublims lowkey? Common.

Dude has been doing it since the mid-nineties

It was a staple of the nineties. All the top tier rappers made a fine art of it. Common, Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, Biggie, Jay-Z, Big Pun, Big L, Cam'ron, Mase, Mobb Deep, even Tribe Called Quest. All of them mastered the art.

When did nikkas ever stop saying names? Besides whats the point of saying names?

Everyone of these rappers is selling an image that's not them.

Back in the 90s BIG n NAS were throwing subs at each other. I think some of best disses come from subs. When a nikka actually gotta use his head to break it down.

That is where NY excelled at, lyrical shadow boxing. I am pretty sure the next gen of great NY mcs will carry on the tradition.

Calling out names seems too messy to me. I can see a novice like Joey Badass doing sumthing dumb like that.

Edit: Shiiit he actually already has, with that whole Lil B scenerio :russ:

All of this shyt is pointless until the nikkas he named say something... bunch of nikkas tryna get buzzes off of a buzzin' rappers song...

Funny thing... is Kendrick could be sitting back waiting for all of these disses then drop an ether on everyone who responded... :lupe:

Yeah, people say that alot about him in retrospect, lol....

The subliminal diss is the egoist's answer to "I'm too large to acknowledge you, but I'mma throw this lil jab your way just so that you know that I hear what the streets is talmbout'.." Almost a slick way to save face, if you will.

fukk that though, this is hip-hop, nobody is "too big" to either be criticized or criticize others. If nikkas need to step they struggle bars up, then they need to HEAR that shyt, and mebbe it means more comin' from somebody that they know deep down is BETTER than them.

When 50 was calling nikkas out nikkas was saying he was ruining hip hop and nikkas need to stick together like the south, the fans asked for the current climate of hip hop. Hell they said the same thing when PAC started calling nikkas out, minus the south part. There is no pleasing us hip hop fans.
