:why:

There will be no honest answer here for the most part. Threads like this inform me that this board is majority white or it’s all 🧢.

I don’t mean to be a bytch ass hater but whether we like it or not the numbers don’t lie. Black people are broke as a people in this country. Yes there are outliers of Black excellence( I guess thecoli proves that:comeon:) but the overwhelming majority of us are not only living paycheck to paycheck but many of us have no tangible wealth, assets, or income that allows us to NOT struggle. We are working poor and damn near homeless.

A big problem is that we refuse to be honest about our money situations with eachother. We can’t gauge how bad we’re doing bc many of us are fukking lying, faking it by going into untold debt to continue the lie, or choosing not to see what our communities are looking like.

The above articles are ALL of America. I’d say it’s probably 80% for ADOS and nonADOS Black people. Either you only care about yourself and then need to shut the fukk up about our “communities” or we are honest about our situation and status in this country and fight like hell through our voting, our underfunded organizations, town hall meetings, advocating for our Black kids and even the Black kids that aren’t ours at school and whatever else that puts money into the hands of our people.

Regions Where Americans are Struggling to pay Their Bills

It’s no coincidence the region with the highest amount of Americans struggling to pay the bills is the Black Belt.

I mean that’s y’all tho. I’m doing right over here  . Y’all be good now.

I can pay my bills and save a little but I pinch every penny. I got into cooking at home and hiking. I straight up had to cut out take out, and don’t go out to get drinks etc. I go to work and go home. That’s how I’m saving money. I don’t understand how people save money and eat out multiple times a week and drink cocktails with they friends and are always doing shyt. Me and my girl straight up go to work, go home, hike, watch movies. She has a decent job too, it ain’t like we both broke. It’s just hard out here.
This, no problems paying bills due to me having a huge preexisting savings cushion and making a decent salary but I'm not really saving as much as I could be. About to cut eating out and some subscriptions. These gas prices is what's killing right now :francis: Work from home brehs got it made

I fill up my gas tank once every 3 months and I drive a hybrid :wow:

And I wfh in my pj’s, so I don’t have to spend money on work attire.

Just took a trip to Hawaii last week and “worked” remotely the whole time. :whew:

That's how I really ran up my savings during the pandemic that put me in a good position I'm in now. But now I travel almost every day for work (although they do reimburse on gas), the tradeoff was a higher salary

I'm getting a company vehicle soon where I should be able to reduce my out of pocket gas usage by at least half:manny:

My fiancee and I don't struggle to pay bills. The struggle comes in trying to consistently save for the sake of saving/a nest egg as opposed to saving for upcoming expenses, i.e. trying to wipe away debt (I most recently paid off my car), planning a wedding, wanting to get out of the apartment life and the general increases in cost of living, daily expenses, etc.

One of those situations where we will have to get honest with ourselves and buckle down. It's wild how when we got together, we started earning more than we ever had but things started costing more than they ever did.

So it's not always easy, but in general it could definitely be worse.

Seems to be a common theme that even though a lot of us are earning more, saving money is just very difficult to do these days even for the financially able

No problem with bills but I definitely need to work on my spending. I live at home and pay $500/mo. Want to move out soon but…

My gf is expensive, I drive a Benz, I eat out too much….definitely need to get a handle on shyt and go out less. Tryna go to LA in Oct but my girl graduates from grad school next year and wants to go to Greece…also tryna throw my own grad party in December and financing both of those is $400 each check. I pretty much have to do OT every week and I am NOT happy about it.

Exactly the same here

Bills get paid and the "fun money" is getting smaller and smaller each month

Cost of living is becoming ridiculous and its the worst time to buy a house with the high ass interest rates

It was a time where a meal at a food spot was 5 bucks

Now its 15 bucks
:russ: your not lying my dad told me a grilled cheese sandwich at one spot cost $10:mjtf:

You gotta cut back on the bare essentials. I realized there’s some ish I had to give up because I can’t have it all.

For me, having a decent car ain’t it.

Cars are a money pit between insurance, gas, car note, parking, oil changes, random maintenance, tickets, car washes.

It all adds up. And the reality for most people their car is idle a good part of the day. I’m willing to bet over 80% of the time.

I challenge everyone to do a real breakdown of what all their car related expenses come out to at the end of a 6 month period. I’m willing to bet most people are basically paying an equivalent to a second car note. And the average car note is $700. And I just hope how they’re financing it is t under a variable interest loan, that going up with the rate hikes :picard: :

Shyt, I can go ahead and tell you now that with where gas prices are... assuming 1 weekly fill-up (and I work from home 2x/week), a month's worth of gas + monthly car insurance is more than my actual note was.

Doesn't even account for oil changes/typical maintenance, getting it washed/cleaned, etc.
