North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Well...Here is where I disagree....Wendy did not have a "huge" non black following on her radio show......If she was doing it like that, she would have never got fired......

Wendy deals in mainstream gossip that appeals to the masses right now........Arsenio got canned for having Farrakhan on his show delivering a message to the black nation......He may have received this second chance as an experiment......

I have no idea

What I do know is that in the 90s(Arsenio's era), programming that catered to black thought and interests on a positive plane were highly successful......Post 2005, not so much...Can someone explain to me what has changed.....

Actually she did. It was a large of enough following that helped kick start her TV show and like I said, during her first season she was doing TV and radio at the same time. As far as Arsenio, he was more done in by competition. When Letterman moved to CBS he had to compete with both Leno and Letterman. The Farrakhan interview was basically the nail in the coffin. A lot has changed since 1994. His peak was from 1988 - 1992. Today there are way more viewing options.

What type of ratings black 90's sitcoms was getting back in the day? :dwillhuh:

A lot of black 90's sitcoms had 5 seasons run.

Alot of white ppl watched black shows back then. :manny:

White ppl in general were always fans of shows like "Sanford & Son" "Good Times" "Jeffersons" etc.

i'm surprised with the tech we have that all cable boxes or tv's aren't equipped with rating trackers that send the info back and then they can choose their sample from a much larger population and be way more accurate or just fukking have a computer count the actual whole population lol
:mjpls: Don't be tracking what watchin if you didn't ask my permission.

So, why did white people just stop watching black shows after the year 2000? Seems weird:ld:

It's unfortunate that Arsenio got cancelled, but you can't help but feel that the network didn't give it a chance to mature and grow on people. They were probably counting on his loyal fan base from the 90's to watch as well roping in a new audience to compliment his old one. But maybe in the end Arsenio was just a victim of his own success. If the network expected his show to make the same impact he had in the 90's, then they were sorely mistaken. Times have changed since his show was on and so has black culture. Mainstream Black media culture is centered around materialism and drama more than it is discussing black issues. That's why shows like LHHATL and RHOA are so popular. What black folk watch on tv nowadays is vastly different. Not to mention technology has changed the way we consume media. Arsenio never had a chance with the lofty expectations heaped upon him.

On point, agre w/ everything

Plus what Arsenio started 20+ years was copied and became the norm. He put hip-hop/black culture on late night mainstream TV before anyone else did so.

Now you can turn on Letterman and see TI, or turn Kimmel on and see Future, etc

So now when Arsenio has rappers on, it's no big deal to watch. He used to be the only game in town for true black exposure

Even white ppl know better than to watch Tyler Perry shows tho. :heh:

Can we also call out all the A list black celebs who completely avoided Arsenio but ran to Fallon/Kimmel/ Letterman? Arsenio gave all these ungrateful fukks some shine when nobody else would, then they became all brand new and acted like they couldn't be seen on his show now. You have Will Smith doing some stupid ass dance bit with Fallon, yet he can't go say wassup 2 the man that was instrumental in getting the FPOBA started:pacspit:

CISM!! :mad::angry:

I'm guessing the ratings are down but I get tired of how short the rope is for minorities on tv to hang themselves with. You can't tell me Craig Ferguson is just killin it with his bullshyt ass show but yet he's made it to season 8 or 9. :beli:

Yea the jokes weren't that funny and also I think his interviewing style sucked...

Arsenio: Welcome Celebrity X!!
Celebrity X: What's up Arsenio, it's good to be here.
Arsenio: It's so good to have you here, I loved you in that thing you were in, and <laughing> I can remember...*goes into some 3 minute story that nobody gives a damn about*

They could and should have at least given him a good two seasons to iron out the kinks. I'm at work when his show is on but I think his importance is in the cultural aspect, someone earlier said he had on guest that usually don't get any shine on late nights...ie a lot of black celebs. Hate it had to be Arsenio...again.:to:
He wasn't even on a major network channel. He was doomed.

they have the technology and this is done behind the scenes.

but if those ratings were to come out, a lot of people would lose their jobs :mjpls:

:rudy:

So you're admitting that you're white and you knew of thousands of non blacks that rock with Wendy Williams in the late 90s and early 2000s? And you have proof of this?:patrice:

Also...You didn't answer my main question

There is not one thing they can name that's being done that is greater than what Arsenio was putting on for the urban community...But yet, they got the mouth to say his show was more subpar than the Wendy Williams show...

This is kind of like low key confirmation that the "The-Coli" is full of them folks for real
