On a 98 Malibu the gages on the dash board dont' work. (All of them are out and it is not a fuse) I have had a cluster (whatever that is) put it in there and that didn't work. The mechanic (a reputable one) said i need to see an electirician about it but i just said bump it since it's my spare car. Also it jerks when accelerating forward and it jerks when it changes from park to drive. Confirm my suspcions that it is the transmission.

I dont know if this is an AC problem or what. When I turn the AC on the car has no power :beli: it struggles to move, but then you hear a click click, which I assume is the compressor, then the car shoots off. Driving with the AC off is no problem, but once its turned on, it gets slow as shyt, until that click click happens.

Hey, Ive been shopping around for a cheap early 2000s car that is a real gas saver, reliable, and that can hold up in the winter months, that i can get full coverage insurance on.

What brand, make and model should it be and how much should i expect to spend on it?

It isnt worth it then. If what im operating now is considered fuel economy, its pointless. :what:

:smugbiden: Gotta pay to play breh....and you know what the best part is??

Modding your acura that way is may be illegal in California..
27156. (a) No person shall operate or leave standing upon a highway a motor vehicle that is a gross polluter, as defined in Section 39032.5 of the Health and Safety Code.

(b) No person shall operate or leave standing upon a highway a motor vehicle that is required to be equipped with a motor vehicle pollution control device under Part 5 (commencing with Section 43000) of Division 26 of the Health and Safety Code or any other certified motor vehicle pollution control device required by any other state law or any rule or regulation adopted pursuant to that law, or required to be equipped with a motor vehicle pollution control device pursuant to the National Emission Standards Act (42 U.S.C. 7521 to 7550, inclusive) and the standards and regulations adopted pursuant to that federal act, unless the motor vehicle is equipped with the required motor vehicle pollution control device that is correctly installed and in operating condition. No person shall disconnect, modify, or alter any such required device.

Depends on the car..Say the shop labor rate is $85/hour then you work out how many hours it would take to do the work

The fastest ones are the little 4 cylinder japanese cars could be done in as little as 4-5 hours so roughly $500

the worst are Mercedes benz V8s ,cadillac northstar v8s these beasts are heavy and have miles of wiring and will take the whole day and part of the next one too you would be talking $1000-1500

Those old school rear wheel drive muscle cars are :ahh:...simple, powerful and that V8 growl when its tuned and timed right

The good news is its way simpler to change those motors than most of these new cars as long as the motor mounts and flexplate dont have to be modified so make sure the 5.7 will fit in the same mounts.

Have you bought the 5.7 already?

The dash issue and tranny jerks are probably two different issues

Cluster means that all the gauges are assembled on one circuit board so they cant be replaced separately you gotta change the whole thing looks like

and the back

In all probablity there is nothing wrong with your original or replacement cluster especially if most of the gauges are at their zero point..
Sounds like the problem is either in the wiring to the cluster or the power to the cluster check the fusebox under the hood release

1998-Chevrolet-Malibu-Fuse-Box-DIagram.jpg

pay attention to the 2 10A fuses in the lower right ( K and IPC/HVAC) and there should be yet another fusebox under the hood with some relays that should be tested too.

Are your daytime runnung lamps coming on? If not then you know its a power issue for sure since they run off the same circuit .

The tranny is probably jerking because its either low on fluid or the filter is clogged..you should get a filter replacement..the filter is in the transmission pan and it should only take about an hour or so to do this you can get an independent joint to do this for about $250 or so in total since malibu filters are only about $30 that should stop the jerking and save your tranny from further problems

DO NOT GET A TRANNY FLUSH...i repeat DO NOT GET A FLUSH..flushing only replaces the fluid and may shoot the dirt from the filter back into your tranny which will make things worse..insist on a filter replacement ... they will still fill it up with clean new fluid and a clean filter.

check those fuses and let me know.
