One thing I've learned is that because you don't see it or hear it, it doesn't mean that it's not happening.

Aside from that Little Village/Brighton Park/New City, most areas are black. I would say gun and gang culture is a bigger contributor than poverty.
Those are poor areas. Wherever you have rampant poverty you are going to have drug trafficking, street gangs and violence. That is in every city and in every country around the World. Chicago overall is a very safe city.

Black people live all over Chicago these days and there are a lot of safe areas. Don't fool yourself. Neighoods like Humboldt Park is dangerous as Hell. There is a bunch of shooting going on in those Hispanic neighborhoods.

You're making my point. Chicago is a safe city, but black people and black neighborhoods bear the brunt of the violence. The realities of black neighborhoods and white neighborhoods are different.

People wouldn't be out protesting against gun violence if it were otherwise. I disagree that wherever people are poor they suddenly lose all sense of morality and start becoming violent. Culture, guns and like you've pointed out drugs are contributing factors. Some cities have a drug epidemic. Chicago's is a lot of culture. Too many gangs. Too many gang hoods. And kids are being brought up in this cycle each day. Teens are fighting hood beefs from decades ago that they had no part in.

I know it's your city and you're going to defend it, so I won't do too much back and forth. It just pains me to see black people getting shot up wherever it's happening. 4000+ people getting shot every year is not something that should be perceived as normal in the so called developed world.

If I were a black man, I would leave shytcago if I was born there and I wouldn’t visit that city either. They simply have a culture of murder in that city, it’s almost cult like. They name hoods after dead members, created smoking on so and do, and several gang members waking around with multiple bodies under their belt. That city is past redemption and it’s an evil place.
I’m sorry but shytcago got me :mjlol:

Is Chicago really that bad? I was recently looking at townhouses and condos there and it seems pretty affordable and the city is similar to NYC but more laid back and less crowded. I know the south side and the west side are dangerous places but the North Side seems to be pretty safe. Can someone from the Chi shine some light on this?

You don't know the history of Chicago. Violence has always been a problem in Chicago, whether it was the Italians, Irish, Jews, Poles, German, Black, Greeks, Chinese, Mexican or Puerto Rican gangs. The thing at the bottom of it has always been poverty, gangs, drugs and alcohol.

You are the prime example of a person that gets shot in Chicago. You are going in thinking the shooting is only in Black neighborhoods. You are wrong. Some of the shootings on the Westside are done by Puerto Ricans, but because the shooting happened on the Westside people have been conditoned to think it is only Black people. Mexicans shoot over Southwest and Southeast. Irish gangs used to shoot over there sometimes too. Just know where you are in Chicago and who is around you and you will be fine. The thing about gangs is that they typically don't shoot at regular people. Those fools are usually shooting at and killing each other. Normal people get hurt in many instances because they were caught in the crossfire and didn't or couldn't read what was about to go down or they were out doing some shyt and got caught up. It is sad that shyt happens, but that is why people move away. Whatever you do just know this. If you are in a poor neighborhood anywhere in Chicago, regardless of the color of the people, then you can get it.

No. Chicago is actually nice. Just stay out of certain hoods and you will be fine.

No. I move around the city every day with no problems. Like someone said earlier in the thread, just be aware of your surroundings.

It’s only in certain areas. Chicago isn’t even in the top 10 for most dangerous anymore.
