I would say Kingdom Come, but I honestly think he was just rusty as fukk after his layoff because he came back with American Gangster and still drops gems from time to time....

Like BP3 wasn't great, but songs like Thank You & Already Home were...

But I agree that at this point he really has nothing to prove. He just out here going platinum doing victory laps.... Still being relevant in hip hop allows him to do more shyt business wise....

He may have fallen off but I still enjoy his music more than 90% of the rappers out now...

Fell off ... sh!t, He aint never fell on ...

Seriosly though I would say after Vol 2. After that Annie sample and Vol 2 sold 4 mil it was a rap... When he made dear summer and put it on Bleeks album. He spent his whole career after that trying to sell 4 mil again.

The I in Team
when he came out of retirement.

Vindictive Hov was what made him great.

Euro Hov is what keeps him famous.

:manny:

Vindictive Hov was one of the goats. Dude was cocky and disrespectful and lyrically sharp. Dissing bytches like there was no tomorrow, surrounded by ignorant nikkas and making music that was a reflection of that.

I always said that Jay was like Rogue from xmen, because he possessed this vampiric ability of taking abilities from those around him. He surrounds himself with sauce money and he has the lyrical complexity, surrounds himself with philly nikkas and he grimy. Now he surrounded with rich Jews and fakkits like Coldplay and his current music is a reflection of that shyt.

You gotta blame Kanye too for turning him into a hypebeast rapper... :scusthov:

My fave era was the "Jigga" era. Around 97, from Vol. 1- Streets Is Watching sdtrck was when he was an undeniable beast. like his flow and lyrics were on some alien shyt to me, he def had the timing down packed in his verses. he fell off after the Black Album and his retirement.

I don't really get anyone who says he fell off though.

Dude just doesn't have much to prove at this point. He's still as witty and as competent as ever. Its not like he hasn't done stuff before.

On here it's popular to act as if dude is the wackest in the game right now, even though he still puts out dope shyt. Every verse he spits gets picked apart for some of the most retarded reasons imaginable.

It's like these cats listen to all his shyt with their lips poked out, rolling their neck, one hand on their hip, while the other's limp as fukk, just waiting for a reason to hate it.

Finally a nikka that says whats been on my mind forever n/h

Jay was a dope street rapper with lyrics n flows for days who actually cared about the quality of his overall product... The quality n effort put in his music made him sell 5 mill n just dropped the quality n consistency of his shyt to sell the same amount...

Maybe hed sell another 5 mill off one album if his lazy ass decided to put the same effort he did pre vol 3

After vol 2 he had nothing but hot singles here and there. Vol 2 was a cohesive product... sometimes I wish he never sampled annie. the commercial success of that single distorted his view of what is hot... I guess you do make more money from selling a million singles on iTunes as opposed to 250k albums...

Sometimes success is your own worst enemy
