I never came out as officially atheist, but I did question several things pertaining to religion. As a black teen in the deep south in MS it was a rude awakening to them that I had this thought process. I still remember it like it was yesterday I was @ restaurant with my parents, brother and a friend of the family. They kept asking me why I never go to church and how I was going to "save my soul". I preceded to explain to them that to live right has nothing to do with attending church. You can be a helpful and productive human being without religion. The gave me the salty look and my brother...in his 30s @ the time was disgusted. Keep in mind he's done way more dirt in his life that I can ever dream of doing. Pr-martial sex, kids out of wedlock, cursing, domestic violence, police record etc. I felt like I was on my own planet and I had came to visit these people. Nowadays I just go with it to avoid conflict of shytting on my family's belief system.

I told my Mom and The Minister (my Father) one morning over breakfast. They don't treat me any differently, but I do get into heated debates with my Mom when she starts to preach.

I told my parents and my family and they don't care.My mom says as long as I let her light her religious candles and respect that she's a believer, she'll respect mine.

lel...i think my mother nearly had a heart attack, so i told her i reconverted to make her stop worrying,. Which was a lie. I dunno man. I think with muslim families its alot harder to come out as an athiest. I mean alot athiest are jews/ exchristians but theres hardly any ex muslims out there, except for the slaman rishdies and the controversial types.

I haven't told my moms B. It would break her heart and I'm not bout dat life. It only shows up when we are praying for food, or if something is wrong in my,her, or somone elses life she will bring God up. I can deal with the minor nusiance and avoidance cause I do it with people in general.
As an atheist I envy people that beleive in GOd and an afterlife. Who doesnt want to believe that when we die there is something else waiting for us or a being is watching over us in some way. So I feel almost selfish to present my atheist beliefs and make somone question theres cause i'm robbing them of a comforting idea. Unless they ask me of my opinions or they become annoying then I let it rip.
