I was born a believer just as I believe you were, as you grow older you have to question and reason. For me it was through learning Christianity that I became a Muslim by choice. Not believing in God is not something that comes naturally to me, like I'd have to go out of my way to dismiss everything I know and I can't unknow it.

As for the relativity of time, someone made the comment on that point specifically so I answered their question. It's not time on another planet, that was my example. But like I keep telling all of you, it comes down to faith, are you honestly as an individual wanting to find that answer, are you open to learning or have you made up your mind?
Nah, I said I was never a real believer. & are you serious with that last question? Do you not understand the irony in what you said?
And I'm not going to live my life on something I have to have faith in. If you need faith to believe it, that means its not real.

LOS ANGELES -- LOS ANGELES (AP) — It looked like a typical Sunday morning at any mega-church. Hundreds packed in for more than an hour of rousing music, an inspirational sermon, a reading and some quiet reflection. The only thing missing was God.

Dozens of gatherings dubbed "atheist mega-churches" by supporters and detractors are springing up around the U.S. after finding success in Great Britain earlier this year. The movement fueled by social media and spearheaded by two prominent British comedians is no joke.

On Sunday, the inaugural Sunday Assembly in Los Angeles attracted more than 400 attendees, all bound by their belief in non-belief. Similar gatherings in San Diego, Nashville, New York and other U.S. cities have drawn hundreds of atheists seeking the camaraderie of a congregation without religion or ritual.

Sunday Assembly Is the Hot New Atheist Church
At this house of worship, the faithful don’t believe in God. And instead of praying, they sing karaoke. Nico Hines speaks to the two comedians who founded this earnest new religion.
We’re in one of the hippest enclaves of East London and hundreds of people are leaping up and down, singing along raucously to the ‘80s power ballad being blasted out by a triumphant band. This is no ordinary gig, though. Welcome to the world’s fastest growing church.

For the most part, this Sunday morning congregation has been enjoying something that looks a lot like a traditional church service. The addition of a frenzied clapping game, “mini-rave” break-out sessions, and those billboard anthems might be the most immediately obvious differences, but there is another significant departure: this church is a God-free zone.

Founded in London earlier this year, the atheist church is expanding fast. New branches of Sunday Assembly have already been set up in Bristol, England, Melbourne, Australia, and New York City. Next month, Sanderson Jones and Pippa Evans, the church’s founders, will set off on a world tour designed to announce the second wave of godless churches that are opening in Ireland, Scotland, Canada, the United States, and Australia.

The numbers are still small, but the growth has been exponential since the first atheist church service was held in January. The idea is simple: it has all of the community spirit, engagement, and inspiration of a church without any of the religious aspects. Each service has at least one guest speaker, from economists to poets, a moment of reflection and, above all, repeated entreaties to get to know the rest of the people there.

Jones, the face of the burgeoning organization, has been taken aback by the acceleration of interest. He is a tall man with a thick golden beard and long blond hair; he says there are noble aspirations behind the church but concedes that part of its appeal lies in the sheer amount of fun had by the congregation. “We like to say it’s entertaining but not entertainment,” he told me. “We don’t have Heaven or Hell to tempt or threaten people with, so if you want to get people to come, you want them to say ‘this is a good thing, which I enjoy.’”

no, im saying im absolutely certain no human knows what that thing is (if it exsits), because none of you possess that knowledge because you read a religious text. no human possesses any knowledge about god that other humans do not, until they die

as far as arrogance, let me go out on a limb and guess you're a christian (:skip:). do you not find it ARROGANT to 'know' that the rest of the world who doesnt accept jesus as salvation is going to hell? you dont find it arrogant to 'know' that every other religion is wrong, but you guys are right because you're special?

because the alternative is that you actually dont need jesus, rendering your religion and jesus unimportant. so which is it?

lol I like your rebuttal but no I'm not Christian I am a Muslim. I still believe that not believing in a creator is not a good thing. I have no idea who will go to hell or heaven, I know that me being a Muslim does not guarantee me heaven. Arrogance is a very big deal in Islam so I'm kinda scared of getting too confident which is a daily battle of balance for me; staying humble in the Western world of bigging yourself up to succeed.

The thing is, if you believe that there might be a creator, and are thinking who knows, then wouldn't the creator communicate? To give guidance at the very least? To teach right from wrong, not when it suits us depending on "the times", but universal truths.

Are you excited for Santa tomorrow night ? :skip:

And how am I arrogant to look at both sides of the fence and decide to go with science which has proven facts ? Choosing logic is arrogance now ?

lol@Santa

I don't think it's arrogant to consider it and lean towards one side but what I think is arrogant is to say with conviction that you are sure there is no creator. That's my take. I think you are lying to yourself and are committing a crime against your soul because how exactly did you become certain...

Any context to this wall of text? In the HuffPost article, they talk about forming a community for one of the smallest minorities in the country. There's no correlation to worshipping anything, it's just a place for people to go and have fun.

The main purpose of joining together is to worship (not God). Atheists joining together as a church with the same format as regular churches.

if more people felt like this i would have much more respect for religion, all of them :ehh:

you can see how an outsider would have no use for christianity or islam, when they both conflict with each other and cannot both be right at the same time

The main purpose of joining a community is to worship? Um... Nah, that's not true at all. Some people like getting together with like minded individuals to do activities. It's how people are. We're social by nature. That doesn't have anything to do with worshipping.

No you were born a pure believer what you became when you started to read or thinking for yourself is a different thing. It's one of differences between Islam and Christianity whereas they believe in children being born sinners we believe they are born pure sinless believers.

As for the question yes I am serious. There are loads of things that if you research and learn about will make you think of how much sense it makes and you will be okay with the fact that you can't see your creator, those pieces of information will be enough to convince you of the existence.

The guys from the article stated it was for worship. Which is it? What you are saying conflicts with what they said.

Quote it.

What is there to worship for an atheist? By definition, they believe there is no God.

I'm on HuffPost article, what article are you referring to?

USAToday article, worship isn't even on the article.

FoxNews, worship is not on the article.
