The Atlanta Braves plan to build a new stadium in Cobb County and move there from Turner Field at the start of the 2017 season, team officials said today.
Braves executives John Schuerholz, Mike Plant and Derek Schiller, in a meeting with a small group of reporters, said the new ballpark will be built at the northwest intersection of I-75 and I-285 in the Galleria/Cumberland Mall area. They said the team has “secured” 60 acres of land for the project.
The Braves said the project will be built in partnership with Cobb County. They indicated that Cobb County would provide public funds toward building the stadium but declined to provide details on that.
The Braves have played in downtown Atlanta since moving here from Milwaukee in 1966 and have played in Turner Field since 1997.
The team officials said the Braves will play the next three seasons at Turner Field before moving to Cobb. The Braves’ 20-season lease at Turner Field expires after the 2016 season.
It would be different if the Braves owned the stadium. I think Ted still has his name on the papers breh. It is pretty wack though.publicly fund your sports franchise stadium only 16 years after they moved to this new stadium and hosted the olympics and move it out of downtown, brehs
Celebrating a team moving from its downtown??? Theyre going to regret it move back when they realize why their attendance ia a fraction of what it once was.
exactly. reminds me of nikkas wanting the pistons to move back downtownAtlanta politicians (current ones) are dumbasses to the 9th degree. cobb county does not deserve to reap that revenue first of all, second, we just gonna diss the olympic stadium like it aint even twenty years old- why can't the falcons play there since the braves are moving? the government is funding two non-needed billion dollar stadiums, instead of improving the transportation infrastructure. dumbasses, and eventually they will realize their error but too late. its like the bears and cubs saying fukk chicago, were moving to joliet![]()
No it wasn't publicly funded.oh my god, this is publicly funded? And the football stadium is too? This shyt is going to fukking bankrupt Atlanta and the counties surrounding. Insanity....
Oh okay. Scratch that then.No it wasn't publicly funded.

i feel you. these fukks don't realize that in 20 years cobb county will be the ghetto, and gwinnett will the new, chic place to move the team too. kasim reed is a joke and a disgrace to the long line of powerful atlanta politicians.I don't know if this was an Atlanta issue or Cobb County just being hella aggressive. If you remember the Falcons negotiations for their new stadium, when the South site was being debated, Cobb County jumped in & offered a site off Delk Rd for the Falcons. That didn't happen, but that should've been indication that Cobb County was serious about getting a team there
Wow brehs. We did it, we did it.
I don't know if I'm even going to be living here in 3 years but that's a big come up. That placed will be packed 24/7. Demographics and location fit perfectly.
Opens up downtown a little as the Falcons and Braves will be in two seperate areas now. I've always wondered why the Hawks and braves didn't move out to the suburbs as well.

Speak for yourself
Falcons & Braves are in two different parts of downtown as is. They didn't need to move. Hawks moving away from downtown would be a disaster
