i feel you. these fukks don't realize that in 20 years cobb county will be the ghetto, and gwinnett will the new, chic place to move the team too. kasim reed is a joke and a disgrace to the long line of powerful atlanta politicians.

I'm not understanding your beef with Kasim Reed in this situation. Kasim went out of his way to be the public face & voice of the new Falcons stadium, almost to his political detriment. If the Braves wanted to stay in Atlanta he would've gone to bat for them. This is about the Braves, greed & abandoning Atlanta. Again Reed isn't to blame in this & I'm sure he's blindsided by this news

I'm literally disgusted by this announcement. Disgusted by the fact that the Braves are moving from downtown (which further blights the Summerhill, Peoplestown, Mechanicsville communities), disgusted that they feel the need to abandon Turner Field (which was the Olympic Stadium for the 96 Games), disgusted since the Braves have been downtown since they moved here in 1966.

And oh BTW, this part of town (I live a few miles from where they will build the new stadium) is already congested from 285 & I-75 traffic DAILY will now try to accommodate another 40-50,000 people b/w 4-7 pm every day during the summer. There's also no MARTA line there, the closest is Cobb County transit. Terrible news, I don't know how any Atlantan can be happy for this move
Yeah, the traffic is going to be fukking awful trying to get to cobb county for a Braves game at 7:00pm. :scusthov:

The city Atlanta is not getting gentrified? Wouldn't it be more profitable to keep it downtown, and wait fir the area to become white?

It's happening here in certain parts of downtown, west midtown, Atlantic station, Westside areas, but the area Turner Field currently sits in is in the hood & for all the promises that the Olympics & Braves would revitalize that part of Atlanta it never happened. It's still depleted & desolate. Now that will get worse exponentially.

There was talk as recently as last year that the city & Braves were going to try to build developments for retail, commercial & business developments that would be built along the new Atlanta Beltline and bring people to that area, but that fell through. The area the Braves are in now will always be majority black

No that won't happen. The south site the Falcons agreed to (off Northside dr & MLK or across the street from the current Dome) is the site. Nothing will change that now. I don't know what happens to Turner Field, maybe it becomes a museum SMH

Y'all brehs ever drive on I-20 headed east from the Westside & see Turner Field lit to your right or drive on 75/85 south at night with the stadium to your left alive & bright? Now it'll just be darkness :to:

"Braves executives John Schuerholz, Mike Plant and Derek Schiller said Monday the team decided not to seek another 20-year lease at Turner Field and began talks with the Cobb Marietta Coliseum and Exhibit Hall Authority in July....

Plant says talks broke down with the Atlanta Fulton County Recreational Authority earlier this year. He adds that the team has not signed a contract with Cobb County, but he's "100 percent certain it will happen."..

Schiller says financing will come from the Braves and the Cobb County government. The team will be responsible for any cost overruns."

maybe someone could buy and turn into another football stadium (I think it could work as Georgia State's home stadium and hosting the HS championships)

they said the same thing about the Pistons when they move to Auburn Hills. This is shockingly similar. Obviously I don't have much memory of that time but the retrospect I've heard something just like this commentary and now everybody wants them to move back to Detroit because nobody wants to go all the way to fukking Auburn Hills unless you live there already.
The pistons are the 4th team in the metro for this very reason. Even the Lions went back downtown.

No offense breh but they're struggling to fill the lower level at the Georgia Dome...I think they're averaging less than 10,000 a game, I doubt it would get much better even at a renovated Turner Field, but :manny:
