Some BMWs and Audis have more problems than others. You need to research it on ConsumerReports. You can have a 3-series from 2004 be great and 5-series from 2004 be a total POS.

Anyway, do you do your own repairs? It cuts down on maintenance costs. But, German parts cost a lot. When I had a BMW, I bought most of my parts from Bavarian Auto or BMP. Check out www.bavauto.com or www.bmpdesign.com for parts prices. That will give you a ballpark figure on what regular maintenance parts that wear down will cost. Radiator. Hoses. Brakes. Clutch. Tie rod ends. Bushings.

And if you end up with a BMW like mine, you will be driving around with a box of fuses and tail-light bulbs.

:wtf:

that's a LOT of maintenance.

I learned a lot regarding tune-up and repairs with my second BMW. My first was a piece of crap that I just drove, never did any maintenance, didn't know how to, and sold it for what I bought it for. I did replace the clutch.

Anyway, look at how much a distributor cap costs for a BMW. Compare that to a Ford or GM part. It's a huge price difference for the same thing.
So, I replaced the struts on the car. Not that much more expensive than a Camry. Replacing the upper strut mounts, those parts costed more.
I'm just saying if you maintain your car yourself, it will be cheaper if that's the way you want to go. Call up a BMW dealership service department and ask them how much it costs to replace the timing belt on a 2005 BMW 330. Call up a Ford dealership and ask them how much it costs to replace the timing belt for a 2005 Ford Focus. Every trip to the service center felt like a prison rape.

Agreed. They're hit or miss. In my personal experiences and interactions with BMW owners there have been more misses, though. I think the only person I know who has an '04 BMW 3 series is a family member who bought the car brand new in 2003 when they first dropped. She hasn't had any issues at all. Still drives it today.

Right now, a buddy has a E46 M3 he bought used and the clutch is slipping...he had the same mindset as the OP and bought it cause he was gonna stunt. He sold his '01 GS430 which ran perfectly fine and was in mint condition and bought the M3. I think it was like an '02, so 1 year newer than his GS.

I looked at him like :ufdup:because a lot of us warned him not to scoop it up. He's kicking himself now and looking to move into an LS430. :lolbron:

Ok so you have an '07 Camry but want to get an '03-'05 Audi/BMW in order to impress your friends/family/strangers?

Anyone that knows anything about or works on cars will tell you this is a stupid idea; you really don't have the means to own a luxury car but want to get rid of a good/reliable car that does it's job and struggle with an older luxury car for the sole purpose of pretension? no offense but your mindset is that of a young girl.

My advise would be for now, keep the late model Camry, which is one of the best cars out there. When you can save or make more money, then sell the Camry for a nice down payment and lease a brand new luxury car for around $350/mo that way you can get recognition from fellow simpletons but don't have to deal with the depreciation and maintenance issues of a used European car.

You can buy a 5-series/A6/E-class for $10-12k but what most people don't realize until it's too late is that you will still be doing maintenance/repaid bills for a $40-50k car.

have a little patience breh. i can understand wanting the status of an audi or bmw, but its just silly to get an almost ten year old model of one. you think you are going to be happy with it for very long ? sooner rather than later its going to hit you that you are driving an almost 10 year old model, and it sucks compared to the newer ones. keep your car and just keep saving until you can get a model worth the trouble.

Sound Reasoning
I agree with everyone here...what's the point of getting rid of 2007 Camry for an older luxury car that's going to cost more in maintenance and gas just to keep it running?

But at the same time, let's be real here...no one buys an Audi or BMW to get from point A to point B...you buy it to make a statement.

With that being said, if I were you, I would keep that Camry for my daily driver. Its reliable, great on gas and will last for years. It has some cosmetic problems? Ok, fix those issues...it will cost a lot less than buying and maintaining an old luxury car. You want some audio enhancements? Buy them online and have a local place install them. So on and so forth.

Not to mention, if you want to stunt, why don't you use that bread for a nice weekend sports car instead of a luxury car? Because at that point, you can buy a nice sports car that's alittle older but still looks sexy. You can get a nice early-mid 2000s sports car for 10k that has relatively low miles since that guy did the same thing you're going to do...just drive it on the weekend.

Peace
